Post by london_pa »

Are there any of the big chain fast food companies in hin. I am the most boring of eaters and just worried if i cannot find basic western food.I could do without eating as i need to lose some weight but would like something to eat when in Hua Hin.

Surprisingly there is only ONE Burger King, ONE McDonalds, and ONE KFC, no? Not saying that is a bad thing!

I can say that in 8 years I've never set foot in (or had delivery from) any of those three in Hua Hin or Thailand. I have ordered more than a few pizza deliveries from Pizza Company though...

One Franchise that I miss is -- Au Bon Pain -- a French name but a US company. They have many outlets in BKK and about 3 or 4 in Pattaya. Good sandwiches, good pastries. good coffee and open at 7am.

^ They are good, I've been to one in Bangkok (it's in the lobby of a hospital by the way... maybe Bangkok Hospital HH should consider this).

There is no shortage of western food eateries in HH. A little advice is not just to stick to the obvious chain restaurants but try some of the Thai run places as they offer western dishes too. Although you say that you are stuck in you ways with what you can eat...try just a few things on offer in Thailand, you may have a surprise :P For example if you visit the night market try the little chicken sticks (satay) they are quite simply chicken cooked on a BBQ. I am not saying start with really hot Thai dishes, but simple ones..most people understand .."not too spicy" Also try the Thai omelette...wonderful, they sometimes will serve it with fries but I have mine with salad.
Anyway, you will not starve, many burgers, pizzas etc....but I say be a little adventurous 8)

Kind of misses the point though.

He wasn't asking for Thai food.

I know he wasn't  I only said maybe give it a try :naughty: Just a suggestion  Maybe he won't try anything, who knows :shock:If he doesn't he won't know what he is missing! I also said loads of western eateries, there should be enough choice Burger King, Mc D's, British breakfasts, loads of options :) I also said some Thai restaurants serve western food, just in case he did not realise it :duck: When you think about it, KFC chicken is fried chicken, not a million miles away from Satay chicken if you omit the sauce :P
He did mention wanting to loose weight, fast food is not too good for that

It's just a pet hate of mine.

Anybody know where I can get the best steak in town?

You're in Thailand, eat some measly bits of chicken on a stick.

Satay is now a 'world' food, widely available everywhere, although originating in Indonesia. Its done badly in loads of places and I have long given it up as a dish to eat, by choice, in LOS or Thai/Chinese places in the UK. I'd be surprised if the O/P was unfamiliar with it?

Yes we are all different, that what makes the world go around...well maybe!
Steak in HH? Natta's on Soi 88 is a very good place, not really a steakhouse but they serve well made local and imported steaks that are good value for money. Never had a bad meal there :)

Yes, the best steaks are the ones you do yourself, over the coals in your garden :thumb:
