Has anyone ever or does anyone know of anyone who has got a thai driving licence from HH with a tourist visa and a European driving licence.
I know the formalities and the non imm visa needed but has there ever been an exeption?
Thai driving licence fron Hua Hin
Re: Thai driving licence fron Hua Hin
Got my license in August from Pranburi. Very little trouble for beeing Thailand. I was staying on a tourist 60 day visa. I had a valid international license ( paper kind) and I had to go to immigration to get some document that verified that I live here. I had a paper from the landlord at the place I rent confirming this.
Just did a reaction test and some sort of eyesight color test. Total time, under an hour.
Will go back in August to get my five years valid license.

The answer to your question is really "No"...generally at least anyhow.
You might be able to 'swing it' if you have a valid license from your home country or an international one plus a lot of chutspa, you never know man. The key bit was mentioned above by the previous poster about having an address to present.
I must say that there might be issues and I doubt that they will just say that it's fine, as nothing is ever simple here even if you are prepared and have spent time anticipating everything, as you are dealing with the pen-pushers from hell at these places.
But give it a try, nothing to lose and the worst they can say is "No" which may well be the case and I'm doing my best to not be cynical.

Having a tourist visa and a valid DL in thailand is illegal UNLESS its an Inter license as stated before so spitfire is incorrect..
