Should "Footie" be banned?

Post by hhfarang »

Of course most of you are going to say no because you are fans, but I submit that fans of Soccer, that's right, I called it soccer, are as violent as the pit bulls, and most of the other violent things people complain about.

Look of those statistics and chew on them... maybe all footie fans that are involved in violence should be put down...
Wrong thread methinks? I thought this was about racism/'isms & PC?
I think the sport should be banned until the fans can behave...

Just Google it and you will find that it is the most violent sport in the world (in the stands). Are fans of this sport such idiots that they don't understand that it's just a game? :?

When you're taking part in, or being a part of, the greatest sport to have ever graced this planet..... of course tensions will spill over sometimes.

There have been some horrible tragedies in football, but they are few and far between in the big scale of things.

I've been to live sports in America all my life starting with semi pro and pro Baseball games when I was a wee lad, then American football, and even a Hockey game (reputed to be violent) and have only seen the occasional fist fight between two fans in the stands... yet over the years I have read about many tragedies where hundreds of people were killed or injured during or after a footie match.

I was in Rome in the early 80's when I believe either the world cup or one of the semi finals was held there and after the game the fans were overturning and burning autos on the streets of the city and the riot squad had to be called out.

Seriously, what is it about this supposedly non-violent sport that causes violence everywhere it goes.

I remember the story in my youth about a player from a South American country that accidentally made a goal for the other team in the WC or an important match leading up to it. He was murdered when he got off the plane in his home country.

That is the only sport I've ever heard of that brings out this kind of violence in people.

Please explain why fans think it is war and not just a game. :guns: :D :D :D

I understand what you're getting at hhfarang.

So maybe your original wording should have been a bit different....

'Should "footie" be banned in countries that can't control the crowds?'

HHF

I agree it is deplorable but it is worldwide and I cannot understand why when other sports are just as if not more so, physical and supporters just as fanatical

Have a read of this and you will see you do even get it in the US

Yup... those baseball games look like a barrel of fun.

... and watching American football seems like a laugh too with those trigger crazy hicks. (Notice how the security chap in the video goes straight for his gun over a little squabble  )

and lets throw in a hockey game to boot....

I'll stick with footie thanks

"Footie" should be banned, the word I mean, the game is football, just as it is rugby not "rugger".

Thanks GLCQ, you've obviously hit the nail on the head. The violence is there in the minor spectator sports, but they don't get the same publicity. :run:
Championship Plymouth Argyle 1 - 2 Leeds Utd

Points 46; Position 23 RELEGATED

Is football on top of the list pro-rata or just because its so popular all over the world??? Also would we include rugby due to fans fighting each other(i've seen that first hand) and with rugby players regularly sparing on the pitch?? And you couldn't stop there, what about ice hockey where there's a "ruck" every game?? And what about boxing??? Thats gotta be the most violent sport ever!! Queensbury rules can't count for much if its violence that is the topic. Then i guess you'll have to include judo, karate and any marshall art if played competively. Its all well and good to pick on football, but it dosen't have the complete monopoly on the noble art of beating the crap out of each other. just a thought!!
