Mozzies under the bedroom door?

Post by usual suspect »

If your bedroom door is anything like ours..if you look down and check, you may find a sizable gap for mozzies to come in at will.. :(
Answer?.. Who do you know thats coming over from a colder climate? When I came back here in Nov.
I brought with me some draught-excluder brush-strips for screwing onto door-bottoms..yep, they come with pre-drilled holes in the aluminium shroud, so cut to length, drill some pilot holes in the door, screw 'em up & wayhay..one more defence against bedroom mozzies..

You can find similar here in the larger hardware outlets. They come in lengths a bit wider than a door and you trim them to size. Base is a tough plastic with a flexible rubber blade beneath. The base has self affixing adhesive. We've used them on steel/screened security doors coming into the kitchen, more to keep out snakes and mice but they keep out the mosquitoes as well. They've been on for a few years now and no sign of the adhesive or rubber failing. Pete

It was only a couple of years ago when visiting Jim Thompson House I learned why the traditional style of Thai houses included those huge steps into the rooms. Remember that those houses were built before the days of rubber door seals and the like. The only way they had to help keep out snakes - and to keep in crawling babies - was to have the high steps right inside the doorframes - about 9 inches high. As for the mozzies I guess they just had to rely on nets and fumigators.

Yeah, unfortunately once in awhile. When we first moved in there were field mice galore all around the house as we're right next to acres of jungle. One got in and stayed in the living room all night, trying to escape by chewing his way through a brand new patio sliding door screen. :cuss: The mouse population is way down now though, maybe see one near the house only a few times a year.

Snakes a different story. I came in just the other day to find a golden tree snake half chewed up on the living room floor. The dogs were taking their afternoon siesta in there and must have had a blast chasing it around before they caught it. Even with the strip described above, the maid loves to simply leave doors swinging open. :banghead: That particular snake I think was in the living room and under the couch for all of the previous night, even as we were eating dinner in there.  Pete

Pete, we also get the odd snake or two, but thankfully the dangerous ones tend to prefer it outdoors....lol.

You can buy those door seal strips at quite a few places in Hua-Hin, and in fact, I've even seem them at Tesco in the past.

BTW, when your maid leaves the doors swinging open, it's not because she prefers it that way, but instead, it requires less energy than what would be need to actually close them :cuss: :banghead:

I have the same problem with my wife's Mom - she'll open a window, and to date, she has never put the hook on prior to the window slamming against a wall in the wind. Do you think she'll learn that this can be prevented simply by using the hook in the first place? Not a chance in hell. Of course when the window eventually breaks, I'll make damn sure it's her that pays for the repairs. If you ask me, there are only two possible reasons for doing such things...........you either have to be unimaginably lazy, or totally and utterly ........... :banghead:  :thumb:
