PORTABLE BBQ

Post by kirkyboy »

We will be coming again to Hua Hin in April and would like to know if we can buy a portable BBQ as we want to bring some cryovacs of Aussie Beef. We have not found a decent place to get a good steak so we will bring our own.

I did this before in Jakarta with Iowa corn fed beef sirloins ..... and it's a no no....but I got them through anyway .....

At Suvarnabhumi.... they specifically ask on that big billboard if you are bringing meat ...amongst other things into the country.... and chances are if you oblige.... or choose not to....it will be confiscated...if they find it....

You can buy bbqs cheap or you can pay an arm and a leg for a gas grill. You can also find decent steaks on the main road opposite side of soi 56. There is a french butcher there. Cuts the steaks as thick as you want. A hand full of choices of different style cuts of beef. Has other meats also.

We will be arriving at 6.00am, so I don't think the customs people will be awake when we arrive. They never were any other times we came. Thanks for the advice anyway.

On the subject of BBQs..I'm looking for a gas powered grill or BBQ for cooking pork steaks, gammon steaks etc..must be gas because lecky ones just take forever to cook anything..anyone know of a particular shop that may have one (I do not need a mega-bucks model from a Hi-So living Mall type of place) Thanx.

US, we bought a mid-range gas BBQ recently for 8,500 baht from W.O.L.F. that we are very pleased with. There are one or two a bit cheaper and many much more expensive.

The (Italian?) butcher at the new Makro had an excellent selection of imported ( inc Australian ) and Thai sirloin, rib-eye etc when I was there last week - somewhat more expensive though but the Angus beef is excellent.

I am always a little tickled at folks who use the term "barbeque" when what they are actually doing is "grilling".

Two completely different cooking techniques.

Not interchangeable words.

Correct........the minute you use gas or electricity, it's no longer a BBQ. Sure even the British know that :duck: :thumb:

Takiap, you and Nereus are obviously the most knowledgeable people on this forum (from reading your posts). You both seem to know more about most things that anyone else does... not a negative comment... maybe true, but really consistent. :D

It's true. A 'gas barbeque' is an (cue hhfarrang's favourite word :D) oxymoron.
