'The Boat' has sailed
'The Boat' has sailed
Took a walk late this afternoon around town and ended up walking down the night market as they were setting up. Got a bit hungry and thirsty as you do so thought I would call in to 'the Boat' for a drink and a snack. The place is closed and has been gutted. There was a youngish farang inside with a Thai lady looking around so I presume they have taken over. I know a few expats used to go there and last time I was there to return my hired scooter Mags was sat there reading the newspaper.

Mags mentioned that they were going to close when she was here last.
I pass by regularly and yes the closure seemed to have happened about a month ago. Think it was to with rents, but I'm sure Mags will give chapter and verse in due course.

I miss the place. It was a frequent stop for me.
The rent was getting too high so they have moved out on canal road.
I can't find a new place to hang out.

I Also used to often stop there for bite to eat and a cold one, and in fact the owners seen our family grow from being just a couple, to a couple with three kids. Anyway, from what I can remember, their rent went up to 40K and as is to be expected, they said that they just could not afford it outside of the high season.
They've now moved and are up near the klong road. I have to new address but will have to find it later when Mrs T gets out of bed.

Shame as it was a great people watching spot and Toms a nice bloke.

No big problem friends. They moved to soi 56 just before Dinosoaur-market, when you come from the watersite. It should be more a restaurant now. Haven't been there yet.

It was all about the location before though.

Yes exactly. I hope they do well, but it's a bit out of the way now. The sad thing is, the old place will more than likely end up being something nobody even needs or wants........optician, tailor, hair salon, or of course an over priced Farang coffee shop.

Definitely - and also easy to book Toms' taxi there. I think he is going to have to get some publicity/cards out if he hasn't already.BaaBaa. wrote:It was all about the location before though.
