Cheap mobile calls to Thailand

Anyone in the UK at the moment and wishing to make cheap calls to Thailand on their mobile should try the following. Dial 290359 then when connected dial your Thai number including the country code. Calls cost three pence per minute, a massive reduction on normal rates. This works with T-Mobile but I'm not sure about the other providers. You have occasional dropouts and poor sound but on the whole great value for money.

i seem to remember that my last bill in the UK 14 years ago was about 1.000GBP.
I never paid it, sod them.

Try Skype unlimited global calling plan (includes Thailand mobile and landlines) for approx. £8 per month but it does require a reasonable internet connection as it uses VOIP.
You can make the calls to Thailand from a laptop, mobile app, or even a normal landline phone using a special box connected to your phone if you don't want to use a laptop or PC.

Otherwise, calls from Localphone cost between 1-2p per minute using UK 02 national numbers which are often either free from a landline or included in UK mobile 'free' contract minutes.

Skype to Skype is no charge. I don't know how it can get any cheaper.

If you google ''Telestunt cheap international calls'' you will see that for land lines or mobiles the charge from UK to Thailand is 1p per minute.

I used this system for many years and found it to be excellent for all international calls.

I use Dial Around from a UK landline, which is 0.5p per minute to Thai mobiles. Not always perfect but great value if you can't use Skype. No account required:

I used to use Phone Cheap until their prices rocketed to 1p per minute but I notice when you call you get the same voices quoting you the price and giving dialling instructions anyway.

I found Localphone useful as they don't require the use of 0844 or 0800 access numbers which can add to the final overall call cost especially from a mobile phone, where 08 numbers are charged at high tariffs and often not included in any free contract minutes.
Instead, they allocate for your use only, a group of local numbers beginning with 01XX or 02XXXX (for eg. Bristol or Manchester etc.) which you then use to speed dial the linked mobile or landline numbers in overseas countries.
They also don't charge for failed calls.

Skype is the best value at around £8 per month unlimited for their worldwide call plan to mobiles and landlines or completely free if it's a Skype to Skype call.

I know that this thread is about cheap calls from the UK to Thailand, but what about from Thailand to the UK, other than Skype?

Further to Dannie Boy's post I would be interested in ways of making cheap mobile calls to the UK using a Thai Sim. I seem to remember some time ago you could prefix the UK number with either 08 or 09 but not sure how it works.
Would appreciate any help.
