Best 3 places to eat in Hua Hin
I've been to Hua Hin several times and love the food there. My favourite is Moon Smile (predictably I guess), but God it gets busy. I am coming over again in about 8 weeks and was hoping to try and turn this trip into a major foodie experience.
I also want to get out of the central area also and widen my choices but if the best are around Bintabaht then OK.
Happy to try anything.
So if you had the choice of 3 places to eat in Hua Hin where would you go and what would you eat in particular. Everybody must have favourites.
If get enough replies then can try something special and different every night.
Thanks for any help
Andy

As all my trips to Thailand were before moving here. Now, my life is pretty much a major foodie experience!ahandpatsy wrote:I am coming over again in about 8 weeks and was hoping to try and turn this trip into a major foodie experience.

Well the Som Tam is quite spectacular in Bintabaht, as you might expect from a bar-girl area, but it wouldn't make my top 3.I also want to get out of the central area also and widen my choices but if the best are around Bintabaht then OK.
Happy to try anything.
My top 3 are:
The mini-night market that runs down the side of the day market. Head straight for the som tam stool and order yourself a plate of nam-tok, a plate of moo yang, and choose whatever type of som tam you prefer. I think they have crab, fish... I don't know what else as I prefer my Som Tam plain (Som Tam Tai).
Best nam tok in town. Moo yang is also very good, though the dip is not as tasty as the one in the market village food court (meat is a much higher quality though).
Forget this excursion if you don't like spicy food!
Montri. Fantastic Pizzas, Ribs, Steaks. Great spring Rolls. My friends love the pasta. They have a selection of Thai food too, which all looks very good. Draft beer Chang available in small glasses, big glasses, jugs and towers. Don't order a big glass; it works out more expensive per ml than a small one! Have to admit I haven't done the maths when it comes to jugs and towers. Good selection of cocktails too.
Railway Restaurant. Go to the very top of the night market, and directly across the street. Great penang curry, fried xyz in fresh chillie sauce, fried xyz with black pepper. Decent sized portions, reasonable prices. After your meal you can sit in the little bar area and enjoy a beer or cocktail while doing some people-watching. I'd advise you to order a Sprite with your cocktail to give yourself a fighting chance as they are STRONG.

You know, the best place is the one you like the food. This means that it is you who like their food and not necessarily me.

As we have different approaches to the food, I suggest you follow your feeling. If you like spicy Thai food, check the places where lots of Thai people are eating and not many farangs. You'll find plenty of restaurants here and there...
In general, I don't eat in the central area as I don't like its restaurants: Thai food is prepared for westerner tourists, westerner food is not that good. I very much prefer to go slightly outside of it.
Good luck

Wow, that's a tough call with all the good restaurants in this town...
Nata (European and Thai)
Terrace90 (Nearly everything)
Mini Farm (Thai mostly and some European)
And a host of others... it really depends on what kind of food you are looking for. Be specific like Issan Thai, Thai, Italian, steak, European, Mexican, Indian, Japanese, etc., and in what price range and you will get better answers but you will not go wrong with the three I named above...

Re: Best 3 places to eat in Hua Hin
Thanks for the feedback so far. Will ignore the "stay in Bangkok" as I know that there are good (excellent) places to eat.
I guess I was being deliberately vague to get a wide spread. I prefer Thai but have read with interest the Fish and Chip debate ongoing and will probably try some for a change. Also the sushi place you guys rave about sounds great. Steak maybe, but I guess I would love to know about that one meal in that one place that you really remember. Lets face it if a chef/owner has provided something great they should be rewarded with extra business.
So Thai, Isaan I guess if I had to push in one direction.
Dont worry too much about price happy to pay but have often found that best food can be found in cheapest places (I used to work in China and my favourite place was a place that used to be a road lorry container and did bbq on old bicycle spokes)

Issan Thai:
Seb Neur near the Railway station
Normal Thai:
Mini Farm on Soi 88
Royal Thai (fancy, good, but more expensive):
Rashnee at the Thai Silk Village on Nebkahardt road.
Simple as that... top three in mine and my Thai missus opinions on different Thai foods, many more but you asked for the top 3...(Thai).

USA-MAS in Khao Takiap or Oy for Thai...there are so many, it is hard to choose
Natta Great for steak
Japanese restaurant on 94
Re: Best 3 places to eat in Hua Hin
Oy is not that good. Thai food is watered down for tourist clientele... I very much liked it at the beginning and I'm very disappointed today.Siani wrote:
