Never In the UK

Post by Big Boy »

I've been really impressed by Thailand service today.

My wife was cooking breakfast this morning, when there was a strong smell of gas. Switched the cooker off immediately, and informed the landlord. The 'Mr Fixit' was at the house within 10 minutes, and cooker fixed within 30 minutes. Total cost of Sunday call out, parts and labour - 80 Baht. Truly amazing.

Nice to have a good landlord. When we were building we had a good one too off Soi 94. Even though the dogs destroyed the garden, he refunded our full deposit when we moved out.
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

Yes, she's a nice lady - we've stayed with her before.

Wow, I am shocked at the level of superness in this story. You are right, that would NEVER EVER happen in the UK :D

Getting the gas man to the house in 30 minutes would never happen in the UK, but tenants here effectively have no rights at all, while landlords rarely do anything in terms of maintenance.

A friend of mine left a nice little house he'd been renting for 8 years because it was falling down around him. The landlord had, of course, done nothing to the house the whole time my friend lived there. He then kept the 30k deposit to do the place up for the next tenant!

My own landlady is fine. Old and in Bangkok. She's happy because we pay on time, we're happy because she leaves us alone. She did once get someone to fix a leaky roof, but when the water pump breaks down, the air con needs servicing, the doorbell needs replacing, etc. there's no point in asking her to sort it out.

Having said that, if I could find an equivalent bungalow to rent in the UK, I could never afford the rent in the first place!
This is the way

I rent a house and the landlord is actually quite good. I don't know but it seems to be that from what I have seen it is Thai women who are doing the renting out, or maybe they are just the face of it and they have hubbys behind it. Anyway, we had a problem with our piping, that was fixed within a week, then she got someone to tighten a few screws here, add this and that there for us, all good :)
