Cabin Pressure LCD Screen

Post by kendo »

Question guys on our trip over January last year i treated myself to a new camera a Panasonic Lumix 12 mega pixels, very pleased with it until after flying home it started loosing the pixels from the view finder in round cloud like circles. So OK we thought just a faulty camera so we got it changed under the guarantee happy days.

Now the new camera same model, has worked well all year used many times as we have a little baby girl no complaints with it, guarantee has now run out.

We traveled out to Thailand in March for holiday went to use the camera and exactly the same fault had occurred black clouds of missing pixels in the viewing window.

So my question is can cabin pressure Knacker your camera's view finder.

Kendo.  :banghead:

Good question. I very much doubt it. The cabin "pressure" only means that the cabin is pressurised to a comfortable equal ground pressure, on commercial aircraft it is usually equal to around 8,000 feet above sea level. That is the same as taking your camera up a mountain that is 8,000 feet above sea level. Should not be a problem.

Could it have been affected by the x-ray equipment at the airports?

I guess it`s possible, but again very unlikely. Emulsion type unexposed film can be affected, but as it is a digital camera there is no film!
Excessive heat could cause it, but as it happened previously I think it maybe a problem just with that make / model of camera.

All i can say is the first camera was only a couple of weeks old, fly long haul, and the camera has the fault, the second identical camera has worked fine for just over a year, and then we fly long haul and the second camera same same the first one.

Now Panasonic i thought was a good make is this a coincidence, am i just unlucky or some other reason thoughts please.

Kendo. :o

My Panasonic also did that.... and occasionally still does.... I was told by a tech in a mall in Jakarta that it was on account of humidity... (??).... however when i see the mixed pixels on the view finder... (Which is rare now).... I immediately patch it on to my flat screen and find they don't show up..... plus it never affected the recording process...

Maybe it is the sudden change in humidity ? Cabin air is very dry, then humid /wet again in UK.

I have one of the earlier Panasonic super zooms (DMC FZ10). It's been on a long haul intercontinental flight as well as a flight from BKK to Chiang Mai with no problems.
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?
