For some reason, I know that the best Panama hats come from Ecuador and I think that cat gut is made from sheeps intestines. Black boxes are definately orange as I fit them sometimes and apart from that, George the VI was known as Bertie so I would go for Albert.
Any of the others would be a bit of a guess, the Hundred Years war lasted a few more than a hundred years and I can imagine the October Revolution being celebrated after that in November, the other three I don't have a clue about.

I only know of one Canary Islands and they are in the Atlantic.
October Rev because it began in October (traditionally dated to 25 October 1917) under the Old Style Julian Calendar (O.S.), which corresponds with 7 November 1917 New Style (N.S.).Gregorian Calendar.

There's a fairly logical step from Kiwi, caller, and it doesn't take you to Jersey!

Johnnyk....correct for November ...well done, but Steve G got it first :thumb:
Yes the Canary Islands are in the Atlantic, well spotted for the error :) Anyway, The islands' name is likely derived from the Latin term Insula Canaria, meaning Island of the Dogs

8 What colour is a purple finch? Not sure but I think they are more of a reddish brown than purple.

To be honest, its been one of those 'back of my mind' things to query and this question has provided the answer. So, back in the 50's the original name was deemed too uncommercial and the Kiwi thing kicked in. Now it wasn't the sort of fruit we had in my household when growing up and its curious, that in the mid-70's, Waitrose still used the original name.

In reality, at that time, its likely Waitrose was the only supermarket to stock them and they sold big, hence I recall where they came from, which always struck me as odd considering the name. And they did originate in Asia.

Either way, its an overated, tasteless, bland fruit, as I also learnt at Waitrose all those years ago - against the rules!

We are talking about Kiwi fruit right? :?

If so, Caller you've been going to the wrong places for it. I don't eat a lot of fruit but to call a Kiwi 'bland'...

It's absolutely one of my favorites simply because of the amount of flavour you get from it. A watermelon yup, not much taste, but Kiwi fruit?

Apologies in advance if I've misread stuff.

Edit: Just re-read the part I quoted from yourself and 'Waitrose' stook out like a sore thumb .

Nope, you got that right. Just my view, you obviously think different, fair enough.
