Fence for swimming pool

Post by perfectswing »

Need to protect my kids for falling in the pool, does anyone know where to get a fence for pools, doesn't have to be a permanent structure.
Thanks for any advice

This is another area where the Thais utter contempt for safety raises it`s head! Granted, most Thais don`t have a swimming pool at their house, but there are many places where the public, and therefore kids, have easy access, such as hotels, condominiums etc., to name a couple.
I have a permanent stainless steel fence, with two gates that kids cannot open, around my pool. I think at the time it cost about 65 k Baht, but what price do you put on a kids life?
I guess if you just want something until your own kids learn how to swim, then it would be possible to construct something using chain mesh on a steel, or wooden, frame.

Of the same mind as Nereus over the importance of keeping the pool safe. The kitchen/cabinet maker we use knocked this one up for us, can't remember the cost but it certainly wasn't the cheapest option. Our boy learned to swim pretty quick as it turned out, but we decided to leave it up anyway as we get a lot of friends kids round, most of which can't swim, and most of which are allowed to leg it round the garden while Mum heads off to see the missus in the kitchen. It actually turned out to be a bit of a feature in the garden.

Beware of the 'false sense of security' factor though I'd have to add, there was a couple of times - for whatever reasons - he slipped through the net before he'd learned to swim properly. And he had this nasty habit of jumping in and grabbing the edge of the pool on the way up, then use his hands to 'walk' himself round to the steps!!

I agree, it never fails that certain farang's will come out with these type of disparaging remarks , I think it’s a manifestation of their inferiority complex.

No, not at all. If you bother to read the post I was referring specifically to "safety".
As far as I am concerned swimming pools and the lack of safety is in the same category as riding around with a little kid on a motorbike without any helmet, or other protection. It has nothing to do with money either, just a brainless, could not care less attitude where ANY logical safety is involved. :banghead:

Have to agree with the safety of kids, and I think Nereus may be slightly more aware of the dangers and tragedies (than us Europeans for example, who perhaps don't have pools in the back garden) as with Australia being probably the most stringent on the issue due to past fatalities and media coverage of such.

Personally I was having kittens when my brother and his young family stayed at our place in Hua Hin. As I and the Long Haired General don't have kids (yet), it was never a consideration to fence the (plunge) pool...... in hind-sight maybe it should have been.

Of course the other consideration, is to have the kids swimming at an early age - I was brought up in Zambia, and quite honestly cannot remember not being able to swim.

Going back to the topic..I was at a house yesterday that had a hinged gate/fence rig-up made of stainless steel (or chromed mild?)..this may have been damned expensive tho'..? This rig could be folded back against the nearby pillars when not 'needed'..it all ran on nylon castor-rollers. :thumb:

Thanks guys for your response, will try to get someone to install a wooden fence, looks better than steel imo.

Try helping to fish a dead kid out of the water wanker, and you may then be able to contribute something constructive.

That wooden fence looks good but is certainly not good enough to qualify as a "pool fence"

It is very easy to climb over. Does it have self closing gates?

The cheap option is NOT the best.

The OP was a genuine request for any info to fence off his pool and I saw no reason as to why you only needed to have a pop at the Thais in your response and still do not ( that’s all I asked ).
The non–fencing of swimming pools is prevalent throughout the world not just Thailand and I agree with the OP to look into making it more safe when children are around.
So now if you are questioned then every one is a wanker, (good response???)
To the origonal OP I wish you well and SJ's looks very good
