Starting an online business

As a potential immigrant I would like to know if the Thai gov't blocks websites and allows internet business activity such as an online business if you have a retiree visa. I am considering an online business but am unsure it is viable there.

No problem providing your online business does not break the law in Thailand.

Theoretically if you are earning money whilst in Thailand you need a WP, however it is not widely enforced on those earning online, just keep it to yourself and you should be fine

There are two ways one can look at this, because if your site is hosted outside of Thailand, then you are essentially not working in Thailand, providing you're not selling products obtained in Thailand, because then you could be seen as an exporter.

For obvious reasons, a work permit can only be obtained if you're going to be working for a Thai registered company, so getting a work permit to run a an online business would be impossible. The mayor himself once said that part of the reason why they had free WiFi installed in Hua-Hin was to allow foreigners to conduct their business while they are here in the kingdom.


However, things being the way they are over here, I agree, just keep things to yourself. If you make a bucket load of money while you're here, legally or illegally, you run the risk of being on the wrong end of jealousy, and if they want you, they WILL get you.
