Thailand opens first recycling store

Post by buksida »

A recycling institute has on Friday opened the first ever store for people to exchange recycled goods for consumer products in the country.

Sompong Tancharoenpol, chairman of Thailand Institute of Packaging and Recycling Management for Sustainable Environment (TIPMSE) and vice chairman of the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), said the purpose of the "Zero Baht" store was to encourage people to separate different types of garbage and convert them to cash to buy consumer goods.

The store can help lessen the amount of garbage in each community and also reduce people's cost of living, Mr Sompong said

The 14-rai store is located in Soi Onnut 14 in Bangkok's Prawet district.

I thought we already had it in Hua Hin - recycling shops on wheels. They come to you, weigh your goods and give you cash. What's the difference?

Someone is going to get rich from the hills of uncollected waste littering the land and sea!
