Senator 'accidentally' kills secretary

http://www.bangkokpost.com/breakingnews ... -secretary

A senator for Mae Hong Son has told police he accidentally shot and killed his personal secretary with a submachine gun in a restaurant in Phrae province, a duty officer at Wang Chin police station said on Monday.

The shooting occurred at a restaurant in Wang Chin district of the northern province on Sunday night, Pol Lt Choosak Poonsawat said.

Boonsong Kowawisarat, 55, and his personal assistant Chanakarn Detkard, 46, were travelling to Bangkok in the senator's car and stopped for dinner at a restaurant on a local road in moo 2 in tambon Mae Keng, Phrae.

While waiting for food, Mr Boonsong took out a 9mm Uzi submachine gun. He told police the gun accidentally discharged and his secretary was shot in the stomach.

Mr Boonsong said he was so shocked by the tragedy that the owner of the restaurant had to take Chanakarn to hospital, where she succumbed to the gunshot wound, Pol Lt Choosak Poonsawat said.

It was not known whether Mr Boonsong knew the gun was loaded before the shooting.
Police have yet to arrest the senator as he is protected by parliamentary privilege.

I've read some dumb-ass stories but this is right up there with the best of them.

Couldn't really believe it when I first read it. And these idiots are running the country and passing laws?

So stunningly out-of-line and that he can show such arrogance and stupidity. :tosser:

Indeed. Please bring this one up again when some self righteous newbee on here starts preaching about how we don't try to fit into the Thai way of thinking. Pete

I am not surprised that a Thai senator or any politician is carrying a weapon. They shoot at each other all the time. Once you leave you armored car you better be prepared.
We are all living in 'the good old days' of the future.
