Minivan crashes killing 4 on Hua Hin bypass

A passenger van ran off the road and hit a tree on Phetkasem Bypass between Pranburi and Cha-am provinces on Friday and four people were reported dead and five others injured.

Police and medical units were rushed to the area following a report of the crash.

With the help of volunteers, they rescued several injured passengers from the van, that was heading for Bangkok. They were sent to Pranburi Hospital, reports said.

Police said they had to cut through the wreckage to retrieve the bodies of those killed.

They were ientified as the driver, Ms Narumol Lunagkrai, 48, a male passenger, Saichol Siwang, 28, and two women, Surangrat Prasertwatphol, 38 and Sirilak Wannaphong, 28.

Yet another minivan crash, and as always, innocent passengers pay the price. In my opinion, these minibuses are the most risky form of transport in the country, and yet no real action is taken against the operators.


With modern technology, it's possible to record speed and etc, so why the hell aren't the operators doing this? Personally, I'd rather walk to Bangkok than climb into one of those mobile coffins. To those killed.....RIP

The government had put tracking devices on the mini vans a few months ago to control their speeding. I noticed a definite slow down in them on the BKK - Hua Hin route as none ever passed me going 110kph. On last trip I did notice several going past me so, as usual, they have figured out ways around the device or the government has stopped monitoring them. Short attention span.

Yes, Takiap, I agree with you completely. I once took one of those minivans, and will never do it again! Don't let anyone you care about take them. They reach speeds of 150 km/hr and drive about 1 metre from the back of vehicles that get in their way! They are also crammed with passengers! I guess they make money for someone, so nothing will change as long as people keep using them, but why can't they just go slower and keep safer distances? They are talked about a lot on the Thai morning chat shows.

I have recently been travelling HH to BKK and back three times a week, with a driver and up until about four weeks ago there were definite signs that the tracking devices and the reporting telephone number were having an impact, but now as far as I can see it's as bad as ever.
