Cicada Weekend Market

Post by MrPlum »

For anyone who hasn't discovered this Hua Hin market, it's well worth a visit... http://www.cicadamarket.com/

What started as an artists market has expanded and become more sophisticated with free entertainment on Friday and Saturday nights. You can sit down and eat with a wide choice of foods and desserts and some of the stalls you won't find in other markets.

Prices are a little higher for food but still cheap as chips for tourists. Visitors are mainly Bangkok Thais in the low season with an influx of foreigners in high season.

It is located just in front of the Hyatt Hotel near Khao Takiab and is open from around 5pm until 11pm Fri, Sat & Sun.

B-Boy dancers are entertaining. There are also foreign acts from time to time. A group called 'Act of Congress' playing Paul Simon type numbers performed when I was there. A breath of fresh air and surprisingly good. Food-wise I tried a vegetable shish kebab but it was too raw and difficult to eat. The chicken kebab was much better. Plenty of choice though. For dessert or a cool snack, the phallic, chocolate frozen banana stand is a giggle for the ladies. (You'll understand when you see it). Tried the almond-coated banana. Delicious. Choc-ice next week.

Parking can be iffy if you arrive late and you may have to wait for a table if you arrive at peak time. You can park across the street free or pay 20-40thb if it is full. I parked near the 7-11 and walked.

I understand this market may be expanding into a day market.

Popular and a pleasant way to spend an evening. :thumb:
