Does anyone have experience with a good shop that makes quality doors and windows?
I need to replace a set of double wooden doors, the bugs have been happily feasting while I am away.
Any info is appreciated and if possible can you provide some detail about the work you had done such as names (Khun so-and-so), specs, costs, delivery times etc.

JohhnyK - There's a big wood hop in Pranburi, turn left at the first big street off the main road.....if I remember correctly its on a traffic light. Pranburi's wet market is on the left near corner. The wood shop is on the left side about half a mile. They make all kinds of doors and windows, and it's a fun place to hang out for a bit. Not sure if they install but surely they would know who to send you to.
We bought a beautiful stained glass door from one of the two shops on Petchkasem out toward Cha Am four years ago and the carpenter they recommended installed our 9,000 baht door set upside down and backwards.......fortunately they don't seem to be in business any more but just a warning to check whoever does the install. He looked like he knew what he was doing but unfortunately for our lock set you had to cut a couple of big holes in the doors and it wasn't something I could fix. I finally put in a separate door handle and dead bolt but had to do a lot of work with wood putty which still didn't cover all the damage to the piece with the glass in it.
Thanks T.I.G.R. I'll pass by and have a look, also good to know about the people who don't know what they are doing, screw it up then charge you for it. Maybe the installation cost is double if they do it right!
If you go out of town on the Palau Rd, past La Valee on the oposite side of the road is a door place. Happy with mine, they also put put me onto a local fitter who did it for B600. The wife did the staining/Varnishing :-) Well she is from Issan

B3000.It was a solid panaled single door, but nice. For some strange reason my kitchen door was a louvred interior door that didn't keep out the mossies let alone the Kamoy (sp?)

How do you stop the same thing happening again ? (termites ?)
Are there aluminium or uPVC alternatives or is it all about paying more to get a quality hard wood that will be more resistant to attack ? I suppose you will also have to replace the door frame at the same time ?

my original doors are crap wood, fiber-y wood and easy meat for the bugs (maybe termites, not sure right now). Aesthetically I don't like PVC though I recognize their advantages so I'm thinking good hardwood that I will treat. Door frame seems ok but probably best to do frame and door together.
A good hardwood door properly maintained would be my choice as well. The supplier should be able to advise you on what's best to use. There used to be a door and window place in town, almost opposite where Barry's Victoria breakfast place was located on the main road.
There's a small shop just north of town on the left on the way to Cha am. Stay away from him! His display in very nice but when my doors showed up they were completely butchered.

It's on the main Petchkasem Road, almost directly opposite the Tessabahn offices but slightly further south.(go past the bank and close to the junction with soi 63) never used them so can't vouch for their quality but they've been there a number of years and also have window frames of differing quality/price on sale.
