During our visits to Hua Hin we've bought some nice oil paintings from a shop on Soi Salekam. If I recall there are a few shops of that type on that soi. Paintings done on the premises as you can at times see the owner working. It's landscapes and similar though. If you want portraits, I'm not sure if they do them. Take a look though. Pete

There are also a couple of artists based on the Night Market, and along Poolsuk Road, and shops selling paintings on the sois which lead down to the pier.
Depends what you want. Personally I like the more impressionist stuff - which you are more likely to find on the Night Market. But as Pete says it's often landscapes etc - the inevitable elephants and village/river scenes.
Portraits IMO are best done by Thai artists in pencil/charcoal. The ones I've seen done in oils tend to look too 'flat'.

Pop up to what I think is signposted as "The Artists' Village" and speak to someone there. About 2-3 kms out of town on the right heading west on the PalaU road.
Worth a look anyway.
This is the way

Yes, worth a look but you need deep pockets from what I saw of it. Also, got the usual
"ignore the Farang", but I was by myself. Did not see anyone offering to do portraits while you wait, although there were some artists painting. Also, not sure, but believe it is only open on the weekends?

List of some galleries here:

The only issue being it appears this site hasn't been maintained since February 2012?

I'm sure I got this from HHF?
