With many of the tailors in and around HH hailing from further West, maybe even Gurkha country, can anyone tell me if they know of one that can competently make a classic Prince Charlie outfit, kilt and all? I've rented them before but since I'm over in a couple of weeks' time, thought it might be worth buying one if I can be sure it will be faithfully reproduced.
Many thanks!

You could try the tailor called Alba Mode who is a few doors north of The Shopping Mall on Petchakesam Rd.
He is from Nepal and his family had something to do with the British Forces. You can only ask.

Agreed - fetch the fabric with you, and if possible patterns for the kilt and jacket. HH tailors - as with the rest of Thailand - seem to be stuck in their ways with regard to fabrics and designs, but they can copy well.blue05 wrote:think you may be lucky to get the material for the kilt ,more than anything

Re: Swinging Sporran
Sorry to digress but this reminds me of an old joke. A Scots guy is celebrating his 21st birthday so says to his mum, "can you make me a pair of tartan pants to go with my new kilt" (obviously not an orthodox dresser), so his mum says "ok son, go down to the cloth shop and buy some material and i'll make ya a wee pair of tartan pants". Shoe rushes down to the cloth shop and buys 6 square feet of cloth and hurries home and gives the material to his mum, who says " how much cloth do you have hear son." So when he replies 6 square feet she says " silly lad, you only need half of that" so cut it in half and made him the pair of pants.dtaai-maai wrote:Always a good idea when wearing a kilt!blue05 wrote: I would tread with care though
In his excitement he takes a bath puts on the kilt but is in such a rush that he forgets to put his pants on. Down at the pub he shows all the girls his new kilt "what daya think of this" his shouts as he shows them the new kilt. "Oh very nice" they all shout. He then lifts up his kilt and says "and what daya think of this" "wow, even better" they cry. Aye he says, "and I have another 3 foot of that at home"!!!

All jokes aside, good advice on bringing the material with me. The outlaws are coming over for Christmas and they're from chilly Aberdeen so it shouldn't be such a hardship. I'll get onto it and thanks for the advice about getting it copied as opposed to a 'Thai original'...I might need to tread very carefully indeed!
