coconut oil

Post by wenshidi »

Where can I buy some nice coconut oil?
I promised some as gifts for friends.
I have seen some glass bottles in Shopping Mall for 280 but that is quite expensive and I do not want to carry glass bottles internationally. Loads of places in Pattaya had plastic bottles at just 120 baht. Can I find those here?

I recently bought organic cold-pressed coconut oil for a friend from the shop (left as you go up the steps in front of the dinosaur-thing) next to the big outlet store in Cha Am.
I don't know if that was a good deal, average, or a rip-off: the smallish plastic bottle was 200 Baht, but apparently it was around 60% less than same quality/quantity costs here in Hong Kong.

Typically 1 Litre of Organic Cold Pressed Coconut oil is around THB400 +/- a bit.

Many brands and glass or plastic bottles are available. Personally I'd prefer a glass one.

A few years ago, I used to by direct from the producer in Chumpon area (I think), and had to buy in large plastic 20 Litre containers, but have not done so for a few years now.

Just checked the price on the (plastic) bottle and it was 170 baht for 1L of organic coconut oil. Can't remember the name, but its the shopping complex on the opposite side of the Sheraton hotel about 1 -2 km's after going through the tunnel heading towards Cha Am on the LHS. They have a good selection of coconut oils, olive oils and a wide range of honey also available all at very good prices - definitely worth a look!!

Impossible. Either it isn't genuine organic coconut oil or you are mistaken about the price. I pay 240 a litre and that's the best I could find, buying in bulk, direct from the supplier.

Well the bottle is at least 6 months old, so it could well be 10% more by now, but for anybody interested then call into the shop and look yourself - I was truly amazed at some of their prices. As you go up the steep steps, the food outlet is on your left, the clothes are on the right. Happy shopping, even you might be happy Mr P?

Spare me.

I've been buying large qtys of coconut oil for 5 years and have never seen a retail price per litre less than 500 thb, which is why I buy direct from the farm. I know the shop you mention.. we were there last month... and neither my 'wife' or I recall seeing this particular brand before. A web search isn't much help.

The picture doesn't lie, so I'll be having a look tomorrow and will buy the lot, if it's still at that price.

I'm even more curious as to how a coconut can fail to be organic? Do they actually bother to feed and de-bug the trees?
