Eurovision Song Contest 2013

Post by aussiemax »

It's on this weekend. Wonder if anybody knows whether it can be watched here in Hua Hin. Most likely not live but maybe in some time after the event . I know most songs are crap, but it's still good fun to watch. Expat tv perhaps ??

Mmmm. Only a personal take on the Eurovision Song Contest but I am pleased not to see it. For those who do like to watch, what is the attraction, the music, the contest or am I missing something else??

Never watch it myself but have a Thai friend who loves it so I download it each year for him; within hours of receiving the DVD he can tell us all about the contest and within days he can sing his favourite songs to us.......

Thanks for your input moja. The competition has huge viewing figures so I must be in a minority but for me the music is pretty non-desript but still many people are glued to their TVs watching it and I can't understand why! Maybe it's simply a chance to support your nation??

It has not died, that' for sure. It is the most watched non sporting event in the world. Up to 600 million people watch it all over the world. So I am not alone.
It launched the careers of Julio Iglesias, Abba and Celine Dion. So there is some talent every ten years or so. It can get very boring (3.5 hours) but I still would like to see it.

Very much an acquired taste but one I have gained. So bad it is good. Split it up into it's individual elements and they are pretty awful but put dodgy songs, lyrics, dances all together, throw in some totally politcially bias voting, add the buoyant atmosphere of the audience and top this off with sarcastic commentary (Wogan was great and I think it is Graham Norton now who is okay but not a par on Wogan). Watch it over a few beers or couple of bottles of wine and it makes a pleasant evening. With the mix of nationalities here perhaps somplace would be brave enough to have a Eurovision evening although as it would have to be a recording due to time differences it would not be the same.
