CHON BURI - Eighteen South Korean tourists were injured, two seriously, when two speedboats ferrying them to Pattaya's Koh Larn collided Sunday morning.

The collision took place about 800 metres offshore from Koh Larn's Tawaen beach.

Ten of the injured tourists were sent to Bangkok Hospital Pattaya and eight to Pattaya Memorial Hospital.

The two who were seriously injured were identified as 51-year-old Myung Be Kin, whose legs were nearly severed in the crash, and 63-year-old Gihwa Song, who lost one leg entirely.

The two drivers of the speedboats fled the scene of the crash and remain at large. Police are carrying out a manhunt to find them.

Police said a total of 28 South Korean tourists were travelling on the two speedboats to the island when the boats collided.

The passengers were wearing life jackets and were rescued from the sea.

The two drivers fled the scene--- how VERY VERY surprising!
In most western countries fleeing the scene of an accident is an additional crime.
But then again--- I should not start any critical sentence with the words--In most western countries.

It seems that it is often 'par-for-the-course' here for drivers of vehicles to flee the scene of an accident/crime. What is notable about this case is that these two obviously found it no barrier that they had to swim 800 or so meters to escape and then run off on land.

Beggar's belief really....................

There was another one the week before when a dive boat went down on the Andaman side at Koh Tachai:

Are you sure they were tourists? Have just watched "Olympus has fallen" and it pays to keep an eye on anyone who might even say they like Kim Chee!

lol Charles....what have you been smoking man......o7

I think a more controversial observation would be along the lines that these Thai men that man boats/buses/tuk-tuks/songthaows and other form of local basic transports ar no different that than your average 'scooter boy' that is responsible for the irresponsible mayhem......that races everyone but has failed to grow up.....hence the facepalm.

There was a big case recently in Bangkok where two boat drivers that where racing the rivers drenched people waiting for a boat taxi on the rivers.......it was up loaded to Youtube but of course the idiots were in denial and pretended they were not racing despite evidence to the opposite.......liers in denial as per usual.

Just scooter boys who have not grown up and these are the people driving your buses/mini vans/tuk-tuks/taxis everyday in almost every situation now................

.....be afraid everyone.

I rest my case.
