Kitchen Worktops

So i have tried Homepro thai watsuda (got the blowtorch) and loads of the small and large wood suppliers, in the uk you can buy lenghs of assorted surface type worktops.

I dont want to buy the complete set ie cupboards and the like just a worktop and not granite or stainless.

any ideas out there.

I've mentioned on here before, there's a 'Thai' place at the U Turn before Thai Watsadu. It looks like an old builders yard as you go past it. The lady (builder) next door swears by them (and we've used them a few times). Prices are a fraction of Thai Watsadu prices. It's certainly worth a look.

In the uk you can buy assorted designs in most diy stores, why on earth don't the big ones here stock them?.

I guess it's because here you have lots of shops offering granite work tops that in the UK would be too expensive for many people, but here it's the norm.

Yes, I had an outdoor kitchen built last year and was going to use that resin stuff they have in the West but when I found out how cheap a basic granite work top was, there didn't seem any reason to use anything else.

I did consider granite for all of 20 seconds, dont fancy cutting the hole for a double sink unit and another for a hob.

Also my jigsaw won't cut granite.

The ubiquitous angle grinder is what you need.
Cutting marble/granite is really quite easy but if you buy from a proper marble/granite supply place they'll cut it and fit it for you.
There was and perhaps still is a place on Petchkasem part the 'Rich' pub but before the PTT station. They did a great job cutting holes in granite for our vanity units - cheap too (a while ago).

There's another granite shop further towards Cha Am on the right hand side of Petchkasem about 2 km's before you get to Thai Watsadu - same experience, reasonable price and they cut the openings for no extra charge and carried the risk of breakage.

The guy who supplied ours did that for use. He even beveled off the piece that came out of the hole for the sink unit so that I could use it to replace a broken coffee table top.

Thanks for the heads up on the granite route, I am going to use this product instead of the standard worktop.

I was just concerned that where at one end they have to cut a big hole for the double drainer it might weaken the whole piece.

Last question, what would the maximum lengh be of the granite tops. If I remembed right in the uk they are around 8 feet.

The longest run in our kitchen is five metres and that's done in two pieces, so probably 3 metres is about as long as they come, unless you really need an uncut length.

No trouble with holes for a double sink or hob, as long as it's supported round the hole.

I would also like to find cheap 'laminate type' worktops, they are great for workbenches in the garage. You used to be able to pick up a 2.5 metre length in any B&Q for 10 pounds if it a had a couple of scratches on the top.

Any further idea's of places in Hua Hin, that sell granite suitable for a small outdoor kitchen?
Also any idea on cost per metre?
