Hi!
I'm from London and have recently retired. I'm looking to spend 2 or 3 months somewhere warm in the winter, away from the cold and dark UK. I've been to Thailand 4 times in last couple of years, in Pattaya and Jomtien, so I know a little about Thailand.
At my age though I'm not really up for a full time bar scene. I would like to go somewhere quieter with a decent beach to walk during the day, and a bit of nightlife for the evenings when I need a bit of company. After reading around on the www I think Hua Hin might be what I'm looking for.
I'm planning to come to Hua Hin in January for 6-7 weeks on a 60 day visa, and probably go to Jomtien for the last week, as it will be easier to get back to bkk airport for an early flight from there.
I used to go hill walking when I was younger so might do some walking in the mountains around HH too if that is possible.
I don't know whether it would be better to stay in a hotel or rent a condo. From reading the agents' ads on this forum it seems that the less expensive rental condos are on the outskirts of HH. I would prefer something that is more central, near both the beach and the nightlife, so it looks like it will have to be a hotel or guesthouse.
If I make it in January and HH suits me, I will probably be coming regularly every winter for 2 or 3 months.
Anyway, apologies for such a long intro, but would appreciate any advice. I'll be having a look around this informative forum.

Welcome to the forum Max, based on the info you have provided, HH should be ok for your lifestyle with enough to do for 6-7 weeks. You might be fortunate to find a condo not too far out of the city centre, but for sure a small hotel or guesthouse will be easy enough to find - there are lists on the right hand side of this page.max51 wrote:Hi!

The beach is ok for walking along, although hot during the daytime and I'm sure you'll get plenty of other replies regarding hill walking and advice re condos.
Re: Hi - probably coming to Hua Hin in January
Thanks Dannie Boy. I don't mind it being hot when walking the beach. I used to go to Goa regularly for the long beaches there. I do like the Goan beaches, food and general ambience, but could be lonely in the evenings as a single older bloke. I found that in LOS I could always find someone to keep me company in the evenings for the price of a few drinks and a tip, which was nice.
If they had bars in Goa like LOS, I would probably go there in the winter, but it seems like HH would probably suit me better.

Welcome to the forum.
You should find a comfortable hotel for 1500-2000 baht a night. You probably need to book in advance for January. I'd suggest booking somewhere for a week or so while you look around and see where you want to stay for the whole period.
As Dannie Boy, said look at Accommodation in the Sponsors List to the right.

Have a look at sport villa. Ticks all your boxes and best value with a pool. Cafe if needed and a short walk to he straight on the beach
