Are there any specialty artwork shops around town at reasonable prices?
Im trying to tidy up a few blank walls and would like to hang some thai/Balinese style artwork.
I had a look at market village and a few of the furniture shops like index and beautiful world,i liked what they had,but it was only on a small scale.
Any suggestions?

Maybe I went there on a bad day but I could not find any traditional paintings. The art was mostly modern and no real connection, for me, with Thailand. I will probably go again to give it another try but I always find the arts and crafts section of JJ market in Bangkok much more rewarding and worth the full day out.jingjoe wrote:cheers for that might be an interesting half day out..might try this weekend

Hua Hin Artist Village is worth a look around for anyone anyway as it's a pleasantly peaceful atmosphere. I was there a few weeks ago and they have some impressive items for sale, obviously not cheap but I thought some better deals than I've seen available in some of the more tourist type art shops in the city center.

Im looking more for the thai/Balinese look than modern art, theres some nice pieces in some of the shops in market village, but the range was small and the prices seemed a bit high.
JJ markets might be a go,getting them home might be a hassle though,is there anything worthwhile at the night markets in hua hin?

I have seen some fantastic contemporary art in Thailand, not just by Thais, but by artists from all over SE Asia. Its as unique to the area as anything 'traditional', but respect the fact that folk have different values in art.Bristolian wrote:The art was mostly modern and no real connection, for me, with Thailand.

Yes, I'm no expert on the subject but what I saw in the Art Village wasn't exactly what I would call modern art. I once went to the Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich which apparently is a leading international collection of modern art and most of what I saw there was wildly different to what they have in Hua Hin.
