Proving Thai residence
I am presently overseas and have run into a bit of a problem about my Thai residency.
I filled in official papers here giving my Thai address as my place of residence now I am asked to provide proof of residency. My Non Imm O visa expires in December and I explained this will be renewed in December and provided a copy of the pages of my passport, in their opinion this means I do not have permanent residence of Thailand only temporary residence which I guess is correct as there is no guarantee it will be extended. I have no utility bills in my name.
I am a British citizen so have a British passport but I do not live there, I have Australian residency and South African residency both of which I have a formal government document to prove this but for Thailand all I have is the one year stamp which really is just temporary residency.
Has anyone else ever run into this issue and if so how did you prove residency. I need to resolve this extremely quickly or I have a serious issue.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

The only thing I can suggest...... is getting your wife to go to Immigration..... And get the letter ( Dont know what it is called ) That allows you to buy a car in your own name...... 500 baht I think.....
This could then be scanned and emailed to you......

How would that actually prove residence?

If you have a Blue Book, use that. If you have a lease use that. You must have one of these if you stay in Thailand, providing you either own or lease where you live. Hope that is helpful.

I don't have either and even if I did they would be in Thai and they would not state I had the right of permanent residence.SunandFun wrote:If you have a Blue Book, use that. It's a bugger of a situation and I have only seven days before I loose my clearance here

I dont know if it would help you or not.....
Its basically a letter from Imm..... That says you live here and that allows you to buy a car etc.... In your own name.....
Whether it would satisfy whatever bureaucrat your dealing with..... I have no idea.....
But if you are on a 7 day deadline...... It might be better than nothing.....

Re: Proving Thai residence
Permanent residence can be extremely difficult to get. It normally involves having had a Non Imm visa for at least three straight years and having paid Thai taxes. You also have to show proficiency in the language and so on and so on.
So really, temporary residence is all that the vast majority of us have allbeit on a year to year basis with annual extensions.
Without knowing why you need to provide residency details, it's difficult for me to advise.

I am not actually trying to get Thai PM, although that would be nice. It is just that the authorities I deal with here for my US DoD Clearance are not accepting Thai residency when the stamp in my passport expires in two months and to be honest they are correct. It is my mistake for not putting Oz or SA down as my place of residence, but then again there were other constraints on using them.lomuamart wrote:Permanent residence can be extremely difficult to get. I had a similar problem recently. I'm in the process of moving my pension funds into QROPS and one of the requirements was 3 evidences of address. I get a couple of bills to my address but they're in Thai. Also, a letter from immigration would also be in Thai. On pointing this out to the relevant authority, they have agreed that a lawyer's letter confirming my address would be proof enough. Not sure whether you can go down the same route.

Is that a lawyers letter from Thailand in English, if so that may help and I can get my wife to organize, she actually knows a judge so that may be even better. Mine is not for pension but a totally different issue.HHTel wrote:I had a similar problem recently. Yes it is in English. Make sure your wife asks for it in English or you may get it in Thai.

When I lived in Pattaya I asked for a certificate of residency to add to my girlfriend's application for a tourist visa to the UK. It was just to prove I lived here and was traveling with her for the purposes of a holiday. They gave me the the letter written in English, it was an option that they offered. Being already translated into English it saved me the astronomical translation fees. Would be interesting if you could have the same letter option here in Hua Hin.HHTel wrote:I had a similar problem recently. Re: Proving Thai residence
I had a meeting today with the powers that be
who are giving me such uphill over this and today they advised no problem to revert back to my Oz address, why they said the opposite the other day I didn't even question. So I am hoping all will be resolved in the next few days.
However this all raises another question to me.
As a one year temporary resident on a Non Imm O (retirement) visa, as I would imagine the majority of us are, what recourse would I/we have if for some reason my/our application to extend was rejected? We all know the craziness of Thai politics so anything could happen here.
I like many have property, vehicles, family and a life here.
I question this as when I first moved to Oz I was on a 357 business visa and after 18 months the Oz authorities out of the blue cancelled my visa and gave me 14 days to leave the country. I raised this with my sponsor who was a very substantial company in Oz and they were advised that an audit had been performed and there were many permanent residents who had the same skill set as me and as such my visa was not valid. After much debate and phone calls from influential people I was given a stay of execution which was finally cancelled and I was given permanent residence but the risk was I could have been on a long slow boat ride back to nowhere land.
