Military evacuate residents from flooded Pala-U villages

Post by buksida »

Nearly 200 infantry soldiers and commandos have been dispatched to evacuate local residents from 70 households in a remote flood-stricken Hua Hin village, an army spokesperson said today.

Sirichan Ngathong, army deputy spokeswoman, said villagers in Pa La-u Noi village, Hua Hin district, were cut off after the road leading to the village was deeply flooded.

She said 150 Army Infantry Centre personnel and 30 others from the Commando and Air Transport Training School went in to evacuate the villagers to a temporary shelter at Pa La-u School yesterday.

A mobile medical unit was assigned to check their health and distribute food and clothing.

Prachuap Khiri Khan province, in which Hua Hin district is located, has been hit by flashfloods in the last few days.

Col Sirichan said Army chief Prayuth Chan-ocha has instructed military personnel to help people in the province and check flood prevention dykes to ensure that they could retain the rising waters.

The Military Transport Department has also sent motorboats to transport people in flood-hit areas, she said.

She reported that the army has so far assigned 5,250 soldiers from 35 companies to help people in flooded areas nationwide.
