Italian tourist beaten by two Thai teenagers

An Italian tourist, Dominico Franco, was beaten by two teenagers early Friday morning in Pran Buri, Prachuab Khiri Khan.
Franco, found in a pool of blood near the entrance to Evason, was taken to Hua Hin Hospital.

He told police later that the teenagers, 15 and 16 years old, used a baseball bat to hit his head. They took his Bt500 cash, a shirt and a helmet. Before the attack, the three had beer together. The two offered to ride him to his hotel as he could not get his motorcycle started.

Pasitta Inthaphand, director of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) for Prachuab Khiri Khan, said she was upset with the incident as the province is a major tourist destination and this would damage the province’s image.

I would have thought getting on a bike with 2 lads carrying baseball bats would have been a little foolish as well.

She was upset because it could damage business... not because she felt bad on behalf of her countrymen or because the guy was beaten. That makes sence.

Yes the guilty party is the newspaper for reporting the incident, for if they had not reported it, it would not have happened.

Poor old Dominico. Not only is he lying in hospital with his head bashed in, but he's been tried and convicted in the court of local opinion of being a pederast and a fool.

If ever anything bad happens to me, please don't post it on here.

:agree: Some people do trust strangers, I am one of them. A sad case, I agree with you DM.

As Siani says - we should be able to trust strangers. Or at least we should be able to in an ideal world. And we shouldn't forget that the victim has suffered and wish him a speedy recovery.
However - he clearly knew that the 2 lads were not only drinking illegally - but also driving illegally. (Unless the minimum legal age for those activities in Italy happens to be 15?)
Would he have taken the same risk in his home country?

OK, so we've decided that if we're offered a lift on a motorcycle by a couple of youths carrying baseball bats, who we know have been drinking, then we shouldn't be suspicious :?

I'm sorry guys, maybe I'm over suspicious, but that raises a red flag in my world.

However, I do hope the lad makes a speedy recovery.

No. I can only speak for myself, but I long ago decided that it would be foolish to take the details of an article like that at face value, and certainly unfair to draw any conclusions from them. Particularly when the details appear to have been provided by the local police.

The guy has been named. Give him a break.

The story as i was told 2nights ago is,he was riding home on his motorbike,it broke down,2 thai teenagers helped guide his bike home,by riding their bike and pushing his.Somewhere along the way they had a brain snap and smashed him over the head with a motorcycle helmet, there was no baseball bats. They robbed him of 600bht,
He was drunk and probably shouldn't of been riding in the first place.A friend rang an ambulance and he was taken to hua hin hospital as there are no xray facilities in pranburi.
The next day is friend contacted the police and they checked the cctv cameras outside 7/11 and along the road near the round about. The two teenagers were identified from the attack and are now under arrest.

Not really, we've heard 2 versions of a story. Comments were made on the story reported on the forum, the purpose of which I assume was to draw discussion. However, some people objected to using the forum for discussion :? , so I, for one withdrew.

If one of our members wrote something like: "Guess what I heard about this stupid tourist called Fred Bloggs... blablabla" the name would be swiftly, and quite rightly, deleted by the Mods.

That's the only point I'm making - I'm not particularly interested in who did what to whom, I just don't think it's fair that we should be dragging this guy's name through the mud when none of us really has the faintest idea what happened.
