Hotel break in

Post by Guess »

A fiend of mine has just had a fairly large theft carried out from his hotel room. I do not wish to name the hotel as there is not necessarily any blame on the owners. However it is in Central HH.

The room had been broken into and several thousand dollars were taken plus other valuables.

This is a fairly common occurence in Bangkok and Pattaya but the first time I have heard of it here.

Ther was little chance that the money was seen being withdrawn from a bank because it was withdrawn from another country.

The police turned up armed only with a camera. No fingerprint or DNA test containers.

A couple of South East European looking people were seen hanging around at the time. Be careful and dilligent.

Apparently this all took place during the day. The safe, the standard key pad variety often used in hotels was broken into apparently easily and without too much noise.

I guess that with this kind of money these guys will have moved on.

If it is necessary to bring cash into Thailand my advice is to get it into a local bank as soon as possible. Also check with the hotel to determine if they have any theft insurance. In most countries they would be liable for the loss if a safe is provided.

It only costs about 150 Baht to open an account here and the bank exchange rates are good. You also get a bit of interest.

Police Effectiveness

Post by coloradokid »

When burglaries do take place, do the police in HH respond quickly? Any experiences on the effectiveness of the police in catching the thugs and returning the stolen goods?

Effective police in HH!! Give me a break!
To solve that mystery they need a fortune teller and a bright moment!

A sad but salutory lesson. Just don't leave big amounts of money in your room, even in a safe.
Just asking, but were any other rooms "hit" or did the perpetrators just happen along on the right one first?

Let us not get into a racial slur throwing competition here. I mentioned the appearance so that people could be on their guard.

The guy that was the victim is no fool. Sometimes after a long journey the hotel safe may be the correct option especially because nobody can see what you put in it. Until yesterday I did not know that they could be broken into so easily.

As for Lomu's question: yes I believe that there were more hits but not with so much money.
