Petrol Station on Soi 94
Petrol Station on Soi 94
There is a small independent looking gas station on the upper part of Soi 94. I'm wondering if the gas from there can be trusted. In other words, does anyone use it for automobiles (I've only seen motorbikes in there). The two old looking pumps have the Prototol insignia on them, but the station looks like it is family owned. From the signs on the pumps it also appears they have "Benzine" 91 octane (which I thought was not sold legally here now) as well as gasohol, but only 91 octane.
Anyway, anyone used their gas and found it to be ok for an SUV that requires either 91+ benzine or 95 gasohol and know if they really have either of those?

Regardless of the quality of the fuel, don't use this particular petrol station. Their pumps are hiked and you will finish up paying around 40% more than at other service stations. You only notice it if you have your vehicle/motorbike filled. Most Thais only ask for 50 baht or so and they don't notice. I have tried it with a car and with a bike. In each case the fill was around 40% more than at other garages.
Avoid it!!

Re: Petrol Station on Soi 94
Pretty serious accusations there HHtel.
I've used this station for more than 10 years and as far as I can see there are no difference in price between the PTT stations in town and this independent one and certainly not a 40 % difference.
100 Baht = full tank all over town and I couldn't care less if the price was doubled.
Gasoline and diesel is very cheap in Thailand.
I have to point out though that I only fill up my motorbikes there and not my diesel digest car and I have no idea if they even sell diesel.

Re: Petrol Station on Soi 94
What a ridiculous thing to say.I couldn't care less if the price was doubled.
It is because of attitudes like that amongst farangs, and many farangs do have that attitude, that we often get overcharged, shortchanged or taken advantage of here.
Re: Petrol Station on Soi 94
I won`t be using this outlet, but it seems to me that the accusation concerns the amount of fuel being charged for, as against the amount actualy delivered by the pump. It has nothing to do with price per litre................................I've used this station for more than 10 years and as far as I can see there are no difference in price between the PTT stations in town and this independent one and certainly not a 40 % difference.

A pedant speaks. It has nothing to do with price per litre.
If you are paying 30 baht per litre for an expected delivery of 1 litre and you are only getting 500cc, then you are in fact paying 60 baht per litre. it doesnt matter what the price sticker on the pump is saying.

Re: Petrol Station on Soi 94
My son uses this station and others. As you say, a full tank costs the same here as anywhere else. Therefore, if this station is corrupt, they must all be corruptNorseman wrote:100 Baht = full tank all over town

Re: Petrol Station on Soi 94
I'd used this station for a while but only partial fills. Didn't really notice too much difference. However, I took my old Isuzu in their and filled it up. Bearing in mind that I can't normally get over 1,000 baht of deisel in this car, it managed to take 1,400 baht at this station. Another day I took a friend's bike in there and filled it up and although it wasn't empty, it took 100 baht easily. After that I filled up at other garages and couldn't get more than 80 baht in. Other people I know have also arrived at the same conclusion.
I repeat, avoid it. (unless you're the type that doesn't care what they pay!!!!)

Re: Petrol Station on Soi 94
I do care what I pay, but I care even more about the quality of what I'm putting into my million baht+ vehicle. I've read and heard that some of the small private stations actually deliver an inferior product that may damage your vehicle. I stopped using the Mobile station just south of the flyover due to rumors like this and also feeling like I got short changed (as in the stories above) a couple of times.
I read that a common scam is for a station to rig the pump where it starts with the balance of the previous customer and adds from there so that when you get charged more than you think you should have on a fill up and look at the pump, it looks right.
Even though it is very convenient to where I live, with the comments above, I'll give this place a pass and go to the Esso on Phetkasem. If I was riding a 10k bike and fills were around 100 baht, I might not worry, but my autos were too expensive to take the risk.
Thanks for all your replies and opinions.

Re: Petrol Station on Soi 94
Location, location, location. I put about 200b in my bike each week, if I drove to esso about 170. If I had to pay for gas for a car I might feel differently.
Re: Petrol Station on Soi 94
I tested that theory a couple of times, and it was about the same as other stations.hhfarang wrote:I stopped using the Mobile station just south of the flyover due to rumors like this and also feeling like I got short changed (as in the stories above) a couple of times.
I read that also, and I always check now - it's never happened to me since I've been checking.hhfarang wrote:I read that a common scam is for a station to rig the pump where it starts with the balance of the previous customer and adds from there so that when you get charged more than you think you should have on a fill up and look at the pump, it looks right.

And now we have another know it all that does not bother to read that which has been posted.REEM wrote:A pedant speaks. It has nothing to do with price per litre.

Read my post again: the subject is the accusation of not receiving the amount of fuel shown and being charged for.

And unless you have some form of audio connection, I have not SPOKEN anything!

Re: Petrol Station on Soi 94
I've used the petrol station over the flyover for the last 11+ years through it's different owners and never had a problem. One to trust IMO.
Re: Petrol Station on Soi 94
My wife says she was cheated there shortly after moving to Soi 94 we haven't used the place since.
