PDRC supporters killed in Hua Hin road accident

Post by buksida »

Three men and a woman were killed and six others injured shortly after midnight on Tuesday when a pickup was hit by a 10-wheeler, forced off the road and hit a tree.

The accident occurred on the Cha-am-Pran Buri bypass in Hua Hin district of Prachuap Khiri Khan province.

All of the passengers in the pick-up truck were supporters of the People's Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) returning to Surat Thani province after taking part in the protest at the Lumpini Park rally site.

Somjai Chuchuaysuwan, one of the injured, said their pickup truck was hit and forced off the road by a 10-wheel truck. The pickup crashed into a tree on the median strip.

I agree that truck drivers are a major issue but it's hard to ignor the safety aspect or sanity of 10 people travelling in a in a pick-up.

I've seen the rather graphic video (not suitable for forum viewing - sorry). The truck has minimal damage, so I would guess the dead were in the back, and were catapulted out at speed.

"Four protesters killed in a suspicious car accident in Hua Hin

Four anti-government protesters were killed and four others injured when a pick-up truck in which they were travelling hit a roadside tree after having been squeezed out of a road by a ten-wheel truck in Hua Hin Monday night.

One of the four survivors, Mr Somporn Anuwat, told police that he suspected the accident was deliberate as the truck driver intended to force their vehicle out of the road.

According to Somporn, altogether 11 protesters left Silom protest site Monday night for home in Surat Thani and Songkhla in their pick-up truck. All of them wore scarfs, wristbands and whistles bearing the colours of the national flag which is used as the symbol of the anti-government protests.

As their pick-up was travelling on the Cha-am-Pran Buri bypass road, Somporn said that a ten-wheel truck zoomed alongside their car and squeezed their car out of the road forcing the driver to lose control and plunge into a roadside tree.

The four dead victims were identified as Wutthisak Kaewbuathong, 37; Amporn Youngyuen, 59; Thavorn Chanturos, 53; and Ms Saowalak Yodpromthong, 42."

Another highway accident, and people losing their lives. Considering the width of the by pass highway as well as the general condition of the road, I wonder what the truck driver has to say.
I have travelled from Bangkok to Hua Hin and beyond by buses, vans and cars. I have always been
a bit worried with the big trucks, as one never knows how many hours these drivers have been on the road. Thanks for the information about this tragedy.
My condolences to all of those poor families.
