What food you miss in Hua Hin?
What food you miss in Hua Hin?
The city is exploding, yet on the culinary side of things it's much of the same.
Whereas you get about everything in Bangkok, Hua Hin in parts is still deep province.
What foods, imports, specialities and/or kind of food places you miss in Hua Hin?

I think most things are pretty much covered here.
The only thing I really miss is a Lamb Donner, but to be honest it's probably better for my health if they don't come to Hua Hin!

I don't miss much either.
One day I'll buy an oven and that will give us another dimension to the cooking process. For me it's the roasting of some food that I miss rather than any particular type of it.

Hi Lomu,
You can buy one of these turbo cookers for around 1k baht - really good for roasting and don't use much electricity compared with a big oven.

Re: What food you miss in Hua Hin?
Interesting. I browsed in here thinking of starting a rather similar topic, about cooking and eating foods from our home countries or areas. I rarely eat Thai food anymore and I don't eat out very often.
Here's a few:
Phad Thai - I can only assume that the restaurant where I ate Phad Thai for about 20 years in the US had their recipe down to a 'T' and it happened to match my taste buds. I don't hate the Phad Thai in Thailand, but I don't like it much, either.
Fresh wild Pacific salmon.
Fresh Dungeness crab. Alaskan King crab, too.
A really good steak.
New Mexican food - no, it's not the nouvelle cuisine of Mexican food - a 2 inch long burrito on a 15 inch plate. It's food from New Mexico. This problem has been partly solved because Villa Market now sells canned green chile. I just need to hone my skills.
Tacos al carbon - I'm trying to find flank steak so I can make these.
Chicken fried steak with cream gravy.

Which ever country I have lived in or visited for a period of time I initially miss the food from the last country I was last in. Guess I've an appreciation of global food.

The Thai food you get in England would never be the same as here either. They tweak things here and there to suit the local tastes.
Ask them for their recipe. The ingredients shouldn't be hard to find .

Re: What food you miss in Hua Hin?
I make a few Thai dishes for myself for just that reason - I've tweaked the taste to my liking. My earlier efforts at Phad Thai were less than successful, but I have time - I might as well try again.GLCQuantum wrote:Phad Thai - I can only assume that the restaurant where I ate Phad Thai for about 20 years in the US had their recipe down to a 'T' and it happened to match my taste buds. A hundren italian restaurants but no greek
Re: What food you miss in Hua Hin?
While not a "pure" Greek restaurant, according to their website and their TripAdvisor page, Crepes & Co. do have some Greek dishes on their menu. A quick look at the menu, they do have moussaka and kotopoulo, a Greek style feta salad, tzatziki salad. But how authentic they are I don't know.oakdale160 wrote:A hundren italian restaurants but no greek
