Bargaining when buying a new car
Bargaining when buying a new car
One question about buying a new car.
Toyota, Isuzu, Ford and so on, the car dealers obviously have a pricelist. Is it possible to bargain on these prices?
I know they have some promotion discount on some models.
But let's say I want to buy a Ford Ranger and there is no promotion discount. What's your experiances? Is it possible to get 8-10% discount?

Re: Buy new car - Bargain
He's right I'm afraid. it's an exercise in futility. They'll sweeten things with some options but that's about it. Better chance haggling at the used car tents. You can pick up some bargains there with late model, low mileage cars/trucks. Pete

Re: Buy new car - Bargain
What is being said is 100% correct in my experience of almost 2 years ago. However, I took some friends to buy a car last year, and discounts were being offered viewtopic.php?f=44&t=24696 .

Re: Bargaining when buying a new car
I've bought two new cars here and I shopped around and no one would bargain on price, however when Honda found out I was trying to decide between their CRV and a Toyota SUV at a similar price, they threw in a couple of fairly expensive options free to swing me their way.... so no, they will not go down on the listed price, but you may be able to get them to throw in some free extras. (That was Honda Pranburi, not Hua Hin, and it was 9 years ago).
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?
Re: Bargaining when buying a new car
But presumably a trade in would vary from dealer to dealer and influence a decision?
Re: Bargaining when buying a new car
As I said in the above link, I was amazed, but most, if not all were prepared to offer a discount to my friends. Whether they had stated an inflated price first, I can't say.
Not my experience at all when purchasing my car.

Re: Bargaining when buying a new car
Bought a Isuzu Highlander a few years ago. Found the best price in BKK. Know own would bargain. I did manage to get 50K baht worth of accessories thrown in.
Why is it called 'after dark' when it really is 'after light'?
Re: Bargaining when buying a new car
Same experience, would not move on listed prices but throw a few extras in to try to sweeten the deals. I had found better luck looking for low klm/later model cars & can make deals happen. I just picked up a Ford Ranger in Pattaya for a steal, better then HHS prices or BKK prices. But if you are happy to pay the price then it is deal, if not then do not shell out the coin in the first place & go elsewhere
Re: Bargaining when buying a new car
If you look on the internet, you can find the new dealer prices for most cars sold in Thailand and in my experience, the dealers seem to stick to them but you can haggle for optional extras and additional things to be thrown in.

Re: Bargaining when buying a new car
Is this an urban myth that has become a fact? I had read that it was a fruitless exercise, so didn't try too much to get a discount. My friends wouldn't believe it, tried and were offered discounts, everywhere except for one dealer, where they were being asked to pay for a rear parcel shelf and windscreen wipers as extras. They then continued to haggle for the extras afterwards.
I hear a lot of you saying it can't happen. How many of you have really tried? I certainly didn't.

It's possible there could be a discount opportunity here. It all depends upon how hungry the dealers and the manufacturer are. Pete

We got 35k's worth of 'First Class' insurance from AXA plus a good quality boot liner 'free' when Mrs.T bought the Accord from Honda.

Re: Bargaining when buying a new car
I've bought 5 new cars and 1 new motorbike in Thailand.
Of the 6 Vehicles, 2 would negotiate on price. 3 readily through in freebies, but no discount, 1, absolutely nothing!
Yes, I've tried hard every time, but it seems not easy, or even possible, often.
As Pete says, now could be different. All the manufacturers have huge stocks of cars (I hear you can get discounts on Ford Escapes right now). Dealers take loans to fill their showrooms, car sales are down, and they need to move stock.
I'm gonna be looking for a new car in the next few months, so will try again. Should I get lucky I'll report it
