Stayed at the Hilton over Xmas/NY. Hotel was excellently located. After having stayed in BKK it was wonderful not to have to take a taxi or tuk tuk anywhere.
Only complaint was the NY dinner. We were 'conned' into having our meal at the top floor posh retsuarant at an even greater supplement and frankly, it was rubbish.
The everyday restaurant (the Market) there wasn't bad at all.

What on earth happened between having the Christmas meal, which you praise on the feeding time forum, and this?cavkc wrote: Only complaint was the NY dinner. We were 'conned' into having our meal at the top floor posh retsuarant at an even greater supplement and frankly, it was rubbish.

Talk is cheap
I too was conned into going to the meal in the top floor restaurant at a cost of 17,000 Baht. The meal was frankly rubbish and having watched the people enjoying the party by the pool joined them as soon as the meal was over, though the damage was done by then. After a good Christmas Eve at the hotel it was major let down and and I am still trying to make it up to my girlfriend who spent most of the afternoon making herself beautiful for our "special evening".
The hotel itself was good we were given a fantastic room and flowers on arrival, so I would probably stay there again.

I hate that "compulsary dinner" shit. We purposely avoided hotels that did this. Some of them even expected our son (who is 13 months old) to pay half ... I mean as if a 1 year old is going to chow through 2 grands worth of food.

Good question Caller .... we had the Christmas meal with the main 'pack' and didn't think it was bad at all .... even though it was expensive. We were booked (pre-paid through our TA and compulsory) to have the NY dinner also with the main event but on NY eve, one of the staff talked us into paying even more to join the 'exclusive' dinner on the top floor. What on earth happened between having the Christmas meal, which you praise on the feeding time forum, and this?
Instead of a huge buffet it was a set meal and was nowhere near as good. I'd rather have gone to Jasmine's (or wherever) and had a better meal for 1,000 baht.
