Possible faulty electricity bill.

I received my electricity bill yesterday and to my big surprise it was only 79 baht! Normally my bills are in the range from 4000 to 6000 baht (high usage of AC). I went to pay my bill at the 3rd. Floor counter in Market Village and asked them to check. And yes, according to the lady, this must be wrong. She then tried to call the office to inform that they needed to check the meter. Nobody answered, so she gave the number to my wife and told her to call later or the next day.

Well today my wife called and to both her and my surprise she was told to go to the head office on Phetkasem Rd. I became quite annoyed now and said that if the electricity company is not coming to check if our meter is correct I'm not going to go to the office. Aren't they interrested in getting the correct amount instead of loosing money?

What could happen if we don't go to the head office as the woman on the phone told my wife to do? Will they eventually show up to check our meter if they see the huge differences from previous bills? Could we become penalised for not going to the head office? In my opinion as long as we have told them over the phone, and at the Market Village counter, they should come and inspect the meter without my wife going to the office!

have you checked the meter reading and compared it with your previous bill??
meter reading etc

Yes, and it seems like a lot less than usual, so faulty meter is my best guess.

I think standard everywhere that the meter reader enters the numerical reading into a hand-held unit, and this prints out the bill you get in your mailbox. It very well could be an input error. What is your meter reading now today as compared to the reading on the bill? That should tell you if an input error. I would also compare what it says today against your bill from the previous month.

Also go to the office. We've never had anything solved where we live without going in for a visit if a problem of some kind arises. Pete :cheers:

We went to PEA today as instructed in the phone call last Thursday. Well now I know why we had to go, though it doesn't make any sense. My wife, which is the house owner, had to sign a document which states that she has reported the problem :roll: As if the phone call was not enough! :twisted:

Well now we have to wait for a call when they will come and fix the meter. In the meantime I'm running all the appliances I can including 4 ACs, while the meter is not counting kWh :roll: :thumb: :neener:

Why bother to tell at all?

Update: After notifying PEA no one came, so two weeks ago my wife made a visit to the PEA office for a second time. Yesterday they arrived and replaced the meter. It took them 10 minutes. It will be interesting to see if there will be any back charge for two months with a faulty meter? Total electricity bill for the last two months approx. 100 baht :mrgreen:

But who knows, they may have a similar system as we have in European countries where they average the use and bill you an estimate. If that's the case I may see a back charge in the region of 10000-20000 baht! :banghead:
