Scooter day trips

Post by Liberty70 »

Hi All.

I'll being Hua Hin in August. Back in Australia I ride motorcycles pretty much daily and when in Thailand I love riding scooters - as crazy as the Thai drivers can be, it's nice to on two wheels on roads where the majority is on two wheels for a change.

I was thinking of doing some exploring on a scooter while staying in Hua Hin. Definitely Cha Am, and maybe Ao Manao (too far??). Are there any other scooter rides that spring to mind that can be done (there and back) in a day?

Cheers,

Stu.

Ao Manao is further than I'd want to go on a scooter for a day trip but when I was bit younger I did a trip down to Dolphin Bay area which was a pleasant day out and about as long as I'd want to be on a Thai scooter in one go.

Thanks Big Boy, will check it out.

SteveG, Dolphin Bay is only about 40kms away - about 90 mins there and back I'm assuming? Will check it out.

Any good scooter rides to be had inland at all?

Cheers,

Stu.

Pala-U, Vineyards, Kaeng Krachan, Pranburi Dam, Prachuab (plenty there, although coastal), Dan Singkorn, Wat Huey Mongkol, 3 Floating Markets quickly off the top of my head, but it's all on Facebook with loads of photos. Personally, I agree the likes of Ao Manao could be too far, but I have some friends who successfully covered much longer distances on scooters.

Cracking list there Big Boy - gives me something to look for in Google Maps to start planning some rides. Distance isn't a drama for me - once did a lap of Samui on a PCX125 in a day and have done 2-300km days on bike back in Australia. Cast iron ass :-)

Have joined the Facebook page so I'll have a look there as well.

Cheers,

Stu.

I'll add Cha-Am, as the back-road ride up to, and through the back of the town is one of my favourite local cruising trips. Basically, hit the canal road and keep going. Turn onto the side roads into Cha-Am before you reach the by-pass road (at the ponds, visible on Google Maps on the RHS final junction before the by-pass). Lots of pleasant views on the side roads along the entire road - when the fields are being irrigated, prior to rice planting, the place is just a riot of wildlife - and mercifully few dogs. Visit the beach at Cha-Am and back pretty much the same way. There & back is about 65km.
Had enough of the trolls. Going to sleep. I may be some time....

Hey Korkenzieher, thanks for the heads up on riding to Cha Am. Definitely want to do a day trip there and good to have a route to follow that maximises the good views on the way.

Will check it out on google maps.

While I do like scooter rides, are there any places in Hua Hin that do rent bigger bikes?

I've done day trips to Ao Manao a couple of times, usually stopping off for breakfast in Pranburi. Not sure I'd like to do it in August, though - the height of the rainy season.

went to ao manao on scooter and it took us 2 1/2 hours with some stops on the way
we stayed at sun beach guesthouse as we wanted to visit the area
thoroughly enjoyed our trip
I guess that you can do it in a day no problems but it is also nice to see the surroundings 8)

Thanks Joelle,

Souns like a good day to me - 5 hours travel on a bike and a couple of hours looking around when I get there. Should be back in Hua Hin in time for evening drinks!

Cheers,

Stu.
