Baby shot dead in Pranburi

Post by hhfarang »

"Baby shot dead in arson and gun attack at house"

"The unusual attack happened Wednesday night at a house in Tambon Pranburi of Pranburi district, Prachuap Khiri Khan province.

Alerted by the victims, police came with firemen managed to put out a Nissan sedan which caught fire 10 minutes later.

Pools of blood were found on the floor in front of the house, and inside.

An injured occupant identified as Mrs Rasamee Dechalor, 48, was shot in the shoulder, both hands and legs.

But the baby was shot on the head and died at the scene.

Mother of the killed baby Mrs Nichapan Naktap said they were watching TV when they smelt smoke outside the house.

She came out with holding her baby in hands.

She shouted for help when she saw her car parked in front caught fire.

As she was shouting gunmen emerged and opened fire at her and her mother.

Her mother was hit by the gunfire as well as her baby on the head, she said.

She said her family had no conflict with any people.

But she said her mother had been convicted of drug charge and was only two years ago freed from prison, adding it might be a cause of the attack."

The grandmother was the target, what happened is sad but facts are facts. Its called collateral damage, nothing wrong or inapropriate, unless you have a weird brain.

The term is sued almost exclusively when referring to military action, not when innocent civilians are the victims, so yes it is inappropriate.

It would probably have sounded a bit less callous with some kind of explanation.
This is the way

Thanks Dannie Boy..I stand by my original statement...I might have let his original post lie without comment but given his previous history I felt duty bound to say something.

Europtimiste...would you feel the same if the baby was a relative of yours?....

To my knowledge actually "collateral damage" is used for both: military action or any attack by civilians against others. As some of you seems to me to be specialists of correct english language, probably teachers ! ! ! ...... so what would be the right word. "Less callous or appropriate" ? ? ? ?

Collateral damage is damage to things that are incidental to the intended target. It is frequently used as a military term where it can refer to the accidental or unintentional killing or wounding of non-combatants and/or destruction to non-combatant property during attacks on legitimate enemy targets...

TRy using words like "cold blooded murder of an innocent child"

No, No, that wasn't (I guess) a cool blooded murder of an innocent child. Read again the report. The target was the grandmother, the gunmen shoot and unfortunately the child was deadly hit, his mother wounded.
So as you, sateeb, stand by your original statement, so do I.

You obviously have difficulty understanding the true meaning of "collateral damage" ..your comments are insensitive to the victim. Try saying something like " What an horrendous waste of a life" instead of conveying the sentiment that " It's OK that a baby was shot because the intended victim was a convicted drug dealer and deserved to die"

Are you a big fan of Marine Le Penn??

Personally, i think its awful an innocent baby has been taken and reading between the lines, it may not have happened if the family had not have been caught up in drugs. ...its even more reason why people should act within the law.

I've browsed through several dictionaries and thesauri and can't find any reason to use it in the way it was used here. Very bad taste.

Holly cow man! I never thought a news post would start an argument about what collateral damage is. I only posted it as it was near Hua Hin and we have members who live in Pranburi.

Sateeb : Yes, a waste of a life, as all collateral damages. I never said that this baby deserved to die because his grandmother was a drug dealer. You wrote this, a weird brain.
Useless discussion, loss of time.
