Driving home to H.H. from Bkk yesterday and noticed several mini vans behind me that seemed to be in slow motion. I was only doing about 100 and was shocked that for the first time I can ever remember they weren't up my arse with their headlights on!
Did the military shorten their accelerator cables or something?
If so, very happy indeed!

Re: mini vans slowing down?
Not sure about the speed they drive, but they've (the military, I guess) certainly changed the minibus station at Victory Monument. It used to run pretty efficiently, but someone's decided to issue tickets, sit here, walk over here, wait in line (for about 10 mins) then get in a bus. It's mahem compared to what it used to be. Strangely enough the van we caught back from BKK to Nakhon Pathom actually had seat belts in it - and they weren't tied under the head rests! Being a seatbelt fanatic I plugged in straight away, and, lo and behold, the driver then instructed everyone to belt-up before we left the bus park. It's certainly a first for me, and long may it continue - but maybe we just had a super-safety-conscious driver.
VS
PS: The van we got from Nakhon Pathom to BKK in the morning took only 45 mins to get to Victory Monument. He drove like a maniac, so I decided to bury my nose in a book to take my mind off his crazy driving (doesn't stop me curling up my toes though, when I nearly head-butt the seat in front).

last week I had a taxi driver drive at the speed limit all the way from Hua Hin to BKK... very slow...

I guess we've been lucky. We have taken minivans too, and from, Hua Hin every year as well as other places, and never had a crazy driver. If the van is packed, I'm not too happy sitting sandwiched in, but since I'm bigger I get the passenger seat often.

Re: mini vans slowing down?
Yes - I have noticed this very welcomed and refreshing phenomena on my recent commutes between HH -BKK - HH.
It could be the result of people listening to the hardening of law enforcement, or as is most likely the case, the plethora of new speed cameras fixed to the overhead bridges and some placed on poles in sneaky locations all along Rama II and Petchkasem Highways.
Either way it seems to be working, and I must admit it has slowed me down too - I've never used the cruise control so much

Re: mini vans slowing down?
Terry, I know this discussion has been on here before, but I don't think it was ever resolved. What, exactly is the speed limit on those two highways from Hua Hin to Bangkok. I've heard everything from 80 to 110, but never seen a posted limit except on curves or through some towns.
Mods, I asked here because of Terry's last post so I'm hoping for a one post definitive answer. If this expands into a speed limit discussion, feel free to move to a more appropriate location.

^^ Very good question Sir
I wish I knew the answer too - so for now I am assuming 100 K.P.H.
However I am sure that I have also seen other higher figures elsewhere.

So they've slowed to supersonic from hypersonic?
Re: mini vans slowing down?
On my recent visit to Isaan I was stopped by the BIB numerous times and reminded the speed limit was 90KPH.Terry wrote:^^ Very good question Sir

I stuck rigidly to this on my way home, even setting my SatNav to sound an alarm if I exceeded the limit. When I was stopped this time, the BIB insisted the limit was 80KPH, and I had been doing 110. Mrs BB chewed the poor guy up and spat him all over the motorway when he tried to impose a fine.
Therefore, I guess the speed limit travelling North is 90KPH, and travelling South is 80KPH
One thing I did notice was that when additional restrictions were imposed e.g. 60KPH, there was never a sign indicating the additional restrictions had been removed.
Regarding the mini-bus speeds, yes, I have noticed many of them driving much slower these days.

^^ Ditto....camera at markers 79-81km speed limit 90km. My satnav also shows the speed limit on the highway as 90km but normally the police will not bother you unless over 120km
