visa extensions

Post by albaker »

Have booked for a holiday in Hua Hin staying 28 days and know that we are allowed 30 day tourist stay , we are from the UK , and there is the possibility that we may be able to extend our stay for an extra 20 days but will not know until after we arrive .
Never had this problem in the past as we usually leave Thailand after 2/3 weeks for Malaysia and return after 2/3 weeks so have the 30 days on each visit
Is it easy to get an extension for the additional days when we are there either in person or from an agent ?
Not too worried about cost within reason as feel that it would be cheaper than postal application for a 60 day tourist visa here in UK , £25.00 each no problem , but they want £10 return postage for each persons application , even when I explained family group , myself , wife and son plus return address is same for all persons/ passports . Also will not accept cheque or credit/debit cards for visa costs so an additional £9.50 for postal order .
Glad to see jelly fish are going .

Yes, you can easily extend by another 30 days at HH immigration office. You need to fill out a simple form and pay 1900 baht, no need for agents.

Not too long ago you could only extend by another 7 days on the tourist visa (the cost was still 1900 baht...), so consider yourself lucky!

Thanks for info .
In country cost of 1900 Thai baht each may as well get visas here in UK , even with the over the top return postage charge there will be negligible difference in total costs .
Has anybody ever tried to contact , email or telephone , the Thai embassy in London ?
6 emails with read request over 8 days no response and telephone , a bl**dy nightmare , 23 , 36
, 40 and 48 minutes hanging on then being disconnected !
Was just trying to request if passports and visas could be sent recorded delivery and how much extra cost .
Never had this problem when the consulates in Hull , Birmingham etc. were up and running for visa applications .

Confirmed! I just turned up a few days before my current 30 Day Stay stamp expired and got a 30 day extension for 1900 Baht. Very simple. Need to bring a photo, your passport and your entry card/stamp. They can complete the forms and make copies for you outside, for a very small fee. (10-20 Baht)

No need to get this in your home country.

No need to send recorded delivery (I didn't), the address is a PO Box. When I did mine in August for a September flight I received it back within 4 days

BE WARNED

Decided that I would apply for postal visas here in UK , received by Thai Embassy / Consulate, sent recorded and was signed for day after posting, 3 weeks later still waiting for return .

Impossible to contact consulate by phone you hang on for ages then you are cut off , emails , even read request ones not answered .

Good job applied in plenty of time so allow yourself plenty of time .

Hi all,
Does this 30 days extension work for all nationalities? I was warned that only citizens of some countries are able to use this option. As if my country, Russia, was in the list of countries the people of which can prolong their stay in Thailand, but after couple of weeks Russia was excluded from that list? Any suggestion? Are here any Russians who tried this?

Does anybody know how far in advance you can do this? I'm currently on a 30 day stamp running until 20 December and would like to get it extended for another 30 days before having to leave the country again.

Most extensions can be done up to 30 days before the permission to stay expires and I havn't seen anything to the contrary on the 30 day visa exempt stamp.
So, I guess you can do it any time.

OK thanks for that. I'd rather get it done sooner rather than later so I can plan my next trip out of the country accordingly! :)

Let us know how you get on. Hopefully I havn't sent you on a wild goose chase and they say only 7 days before. I see no reason why they should but likewise I havn't seen any rules about time limits published.

I went to Immigration yesterday for the first time to extend my tourist visa.

For any other first-timers, there is one piece of very important information you need: No matter how well prepared you think you are, you will get it wrong.

I had all my documents, copies, photo, etc. Took my ticket number, waited 20 minutes and went to see the lady at Desk 2. Because I hadn't stuck my passport photo to the TM7, she wouldn't process the extension. :banghead:

So I went to see the lady on the information desk; she ordered my papers, unstapled my departure card, stuck my photo, told me I had to write on my mobile number on the form (even though it doesn't say that anywhere!) and charged me 8 baht.

Re-queued and got my visa within 5 minutes of going to see desk 4.

Always, always go and see the lady outside.

We always do, and IMHO they are excellent value for money. Mrs BB always checks in with the photo copy lady, and takes direction from her - she's brilliant.

I agree, did my 30 day extension yesterday ( Thursday ) in 15 mins with the help from the volunteer. I hope they stay put at the new immigration place it seems really well organised.
