My misses used to work in a beauty clinic in BKk. One night the clinic manager administered what was supposed to oxygen to an American patient. Instead he (who was totally unqualified to do so) turned on the gas. 15 mins later the patient was completely brain dead (won Thai citizenship on those grounds).

The point of the story is that this probably happens a lot in such an unregulated market.

Pete, I can only assume it's an attempt at a joke implying that you have to be brain-dead to qualify for Thai citizenship. And yet he's married to a Thai lady.
This is the way

No comment about the quality or certification of the establishment in question.

However, to come from a 1st world to a still 3rd world (regardless of what is published), and go to a clinic rather than a one of the major hospitals is folly.

Couldn't she get the same done in the UK for free under your UK hospital/care system?

Why come here...what reason...why take the risk?

Thailand does (did) have good reputation for cheap and good plastic surgery. They flock here from all parts of the globe and I expect those that do go to reputable hospitals and get the treatment from qualified doctors are happy.

Some years ago I bought my then Thai wife a new nose for her birthday  but she insisted on going to a reputable hospital in Bangkok. It was a reasonable price and completed in the space of 4 hours and all is well today (7 years later). On reflection I should have had her brain transplanted too  . She told me there were many places that were cheaper but more of a risk.

Getting plastic jobs done in the UK is expensive and my understanding is that the NHS will only do emergency or special types of work prescribed by specialist doctors or surgeons

.......if it's all over the British tabloids, the first question is why she was so STUPID! Question the establishment that did the procedure as secondary and it may be found that their procedures were normal and customary. :banghead:

It's a lot like USA people who go overseas infrequently. Amazement and anger that things are not the same, don't work the same, don't translate the same....nothing is the same. Oh my God...it's not the USA!

HELLO!....it's a system failure in more developed countries, not a failure here except perhaps for inadequate inspections. Caveat emptor....few will care here unless you pay for that care. Pete

As always there's a hitch. Now she has 2 birthdays. Her real birthday and her noses birthday  She therefore gets given two presents a year now. A toilet roll and a handkerchief. One for each noisy orifice :duck:

It says the surgery was on her back, that doesnt sound like a cosmetic operation.

Yes, and it stated 'corrective' surgery, which I can only assume that it was possibly to cover a scar or birthmark??

Whatever it was, it's certainly a sad little tale.
