Barclays to Kasikorn

Post by joejoe »

Hello everybody,
I need to transfer money (first time using online service) from Barclays UK to my Kasikorn account that I opened in the market village branch.
Into barclays online service, when I type the swift kasithbk it retrieves the Bangkok main address and I can't edit it.
Is it ok to transfer money to that branch even if my account is in market village branch?

Joe, a quick Google search for Swift Code Kasikorn Thailand will confirm what you need to know.

It is easier and you are less likely to encounter problems if you do international transfers by phone banking rather than internet banking.

Joe Joe...I regularly transfer via internet banking from Halifax bank to Kasikorn MV Branch using that swiftcode. Over 10 years now and never a problem, other than the 3 working days rule :banghead:

Thanks everybody,
just wanted to make sure that they wouldn't slow down the transfer because of a "different" address.
By the way, Barclays charges 25£ for a transfer... gosh... how much do your banks do charge?

HSBC used to charge about £15 then it went downto £7 and now its just £4. Remember to transfer the funds in GBP's and Kasikorn will transfer to THB when it arrives giving you about 3-4 baht more to £1

And if you transfer enough, they will contact you first to ask when want the conversion done (might give opportunity to wait for a better rate). They also gave me an extra Baht for each pound for converting immediately. In my case, the rate dropped constantly for about a year, so I got a very good deal.

3-4 baht per pound??? Are the UK banks really giving exchange rates *that far* below the base rate? That's insane! I wonder why anybody would use a bank if they charge for it *and* give such a poor rate.

I transfer from Barclays to Kasikorn every month by internet transfer.
The money goes to HO in BKK first and then on to HH so don't be surprised to see the BKK address come up for your transaction. Just make sure you've entered your account number correctly.
I've found it a fast and reliable service every time. I generally transfer just after midnight in the UK, so say 6.15/7.15am here and the money's in my account at Kasikorn HH around 3-4pm the same day.
Unfortunately, there's yet another charge from our friendly Barclays of 8 GDP for an international transaction. They added it about 5 months ago. So, total Barclays charges are 33 GBP no matter the amount you send.
You'll need the PINsentry thingy to do the transaction which I assume you've got.

Your account number has your branch as part of the number. All the big banks are the same, they only have one SWIFT code number per country.

Just for info, I use this company http://www.currencyfair.com I have also used them for a few years in another country prior to my using them here in Hua Hin.

I transferred some last week, the exchange with them (online) took 19 minutes. It then took 2 days to show in Kasikorn. I got 51.78baht to the £1. The charge was £7.

All info and a walkthru is on the website.

I only made the mistake of transferring money in Thai Baht once and that was about 7-8 years ago and I'm sure I got stung for between 3-4 baht to the £1. Admittedly that was when the exchange rate was over 70 to the £1, but I'm sure it would still be more than 2 baht lower, but without a doubt, it's better to transfer in your home currency and have it converted to Baht on arrival, either immediately, or as BB suggested, you may be able to wait and choose when to exchange if the rate improves.

I have a sterling account with Bangkok Bank, transfer by telephone from Lloyds, stating I want all

charges to be charged by the receiving bank. the charge from 2,000 to 20,000 pounds - 20 baht. I can then

exchange into baht at any time, getting the top rate, at no extra cost.
