Explosives and ammo found near site of mobile cabinet meeting in Hua Hin

Explosives and ammunition found near the site of mobile cabinet meeting this week

A cache of explosives and ammunition was found on Sunday at a roadside bush about two kilometres from an army’s resort in Hua Hin where the mobile cabinet was scheduled to take place on March 27-28.

Acting on a tipoff about the presence of seven suspicious sacks in the bush in Tambon Nong Kae, a team of police explosive ordnance demolition from Naresuan barrack was rushed to the scene for an investigation.

The EOD team carefully opened the seven green and white sacks bearing the words “first company of the first battalion”. Hidden inside the sacks were C4 and TNT explosives, fire bombs, tear gas, smoke bombs, detonators and ammunition for M16 and AK47 rifles.

Police said that the explosives and ammunition were in good conditions but it could not be determined whether the war weapons would be used to disrupt the mobile cabinet meeting or not.

It was however assumed that the owner might have dumped the weapons in the bush for fear that he might get caught and face with serious charges.

Prawit: Hua Hin cabinet meeting still on

Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwon on Monday downplayed the discovery of a large amount of explosives in Prachuap Khiri Khan province, saying this will not affect the planned mobile cabinet meeting in Hua Hin on March 27-28.

The bags of explosives were found by Cambodian workers in a forest plantation in tambon Nong Kae, two kilometres from the army's Suanson Pradipat convalescence centre where the cabinet meeting is scheduled on Friday and Saturday.

The munitions included 41 bars of 1/4-pound TNT, seven bars of 1/2-pound TNT, one bar of one-pound TNT, four units of C-4 explosive and 31 fire bombs.

Gen Prawit said the munitions were old, believed to have been hidden somewhere else before being moved recently to that spot and dumped.
