I've gone through this for 2 years here in pattaya now in that I am raising a 9 (almost 10) year old Thai boy. We have totally given up going anywhere together alone without his Mother in tow also.
I could fill all the byte space Lev has explaining the stories of the so called "do-gooders" both Thai and farang, giving strange looks, strange questions and many times even pulling him by the arm away from me and questioning him. Of course, resulting in tears and a look of panic for me to come save him.

Agree with pete. I have had the same problem, though it has never come to any violence, and I think we've discussed it on the forum before.
Unfortunately, it seems that the people who are most likely to get involved in witch-hunts are also the least intelligent and least rational members of our society. As an example, a number of paediatricians have been assaulted and hounded out of their homes here in the UK.
On a more positive note I took my 10 year old Thai stepson to JW's for a game of fairly late evening pool last time we were in HH and we had none of that nonsense - so thanks to JW's for a pleasant experience.

I think as we sift through these topics about "Thai Life" that come up time and time again on here, it becomes more clear that the status of life and differences between HH and where I am in pattaya are profound. It's a worthy exercise and some good should come out of it...one way or another. Pete

Pete, I can only assume things have changed vastly since I last went to Pattaya. Over the years I have walked the streets quite freely with my 14 year old step daughter, and the same with my son (at all ages up to 11 years old).
Since then, I've been concentrating on Hua Hin. I still visit bars with my son (now 15) or my granddaughter (7) with no trouble.
I've never experienced any trouble, anywhere in Thailand - although I must admit that its often been at the back of my mind that somebody might question the fact I'm walking around with a Thai boy or girl in tow. I totally sympathise with your views, and I would probably react in exactly the same way.
If somebody is thinking of using that number, can I suggest they make a few discreet enquiries first - just to be sure of their facts.

If someone erroneously reports somebody else as a pedo and they are not, its good for the accuser that it is an anonomous hotline otherwise somebody would be getting their *ss kicked in directly. I feel for any good honest people so accused, and applaud their appropriate response.

The convicted pedohile felon should be sent to prison in the United States where the other bad people will deal with this person accordingly. Retribution is virtually assured as child molesters fair the worst.
However the concept of a secretive hotline reeks too much of McCarthyism or snitching on thy neighbor as is encouraged in the communist land of Vietnam. Therefore I am more inclined to agree with the other posters who have portrayed themselves more as the victim of self rightious crusaders. In no way do I condone pedophelia, at the same time one must realize that Thailand is no place for an archaic ethnocentric belief system.

I don't suppose paedophiles walk around wearing, 'I am a pervert' on their chest so a constructive proposal on how to identify these perverts would certainly help. There are too many innocent farang living in or visiting Thailand who have step children, or children that look Thai - we are not all perverts!
