Foreign minister suggests tightening up of immigration system
Foreign Minister Don Paramavinai stressed the need for the immigration system to tightened up in light of an incident of a foreigner who owns a dozen of fake passports and who was thought to have entered the country with a fake passport.
He said that authorities concerned should examine the entire immigration system to find out if there are any loopholes which need to be plugged. He emphasized the need for the tightening of screening process for incoming visitors or tourists even from countries which do not need visas for visiting Thailand.
The minister also urged members of the public to be on the alert and to report to the police if they came across any suspicious foreigners.
In the aftermath of the deadly bombing at Ratchaprasong which killed 22 people and injured over 100 others, the minister said that all parties concerned must work hard to restore foreign tourists’ confidence in Thailand.

Holy Moses, talk about asking for trouble. Is there a reward, or is that only for immigration staff?
This is the way

Yet again another knee jerk reaction. I alone must have reported about 50 on here over the years. They're loosening immigration requirements to improve tourism, and this guy wants to tighten them.
It will all go away in a month or so, just like the other past reactions. Pete

No need to cut back on any religion. Up-to-date facial recognition software along with biometric testing combined with shared international intelligence should reduce risks considerably .... But of course at a cost. Welcome to the 21st Century Thailand.Deep Blue wrote:Definitely cut back on Muslims.

I just emailed a long list of names to the Hua Hin police.... you know who you are...The minister also urged members of the public to be on the alert and to report to the police if they came across any suspicious foreigners.

My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?
Re: Foreign minister urges immigration clampdown
Whilst immigration officers and others are open and willing to abuse the system for a quick buck, the system isn't capable of change. Surely those that make these pronouncements are aware of the reality, but it's always the great unsaid.

My thoughts exactly, and what exactly must a foreigner do in order to look suspicious. I'm probably going to be arrested soon for eating with my mouth closed. I must obviously be trying to hide something. Maybe time to start a new thread about table manners.

Re: Foreign minister urges immigration clampdown
TBH...it's amazing how fast they [Thai police] can find/locate someone once asked to by a law enforcement agency of some description.
Tourist vistor expiration dates should be strigently enforced as standard and violations actively chased.
When it comes to non immigrant visas, of any description, they should require a criminal record check to see if the applicant is wanted either in Thailand or their country of origin. I would guess almost every embassy in Thailand would be happy to co-operate (if requested to) and it would seriously diminish the levels of garbage here.
You know who you are! Fcuk off and go home filth.

If getting a non immigration visa from abroad, it's a requirement to get a criminal record check. I would imagine with the details you have to provide the Thai Embassy, they could easily secure a Thai Police criminal record check as well.Spitfire wrote:When it comes to non immigrant visas, of any description, they should require a criminal record check to see if the applicant is wanted either in Thailand or their country of origin.

Re: Foreign minister urges immigration clampdown
If you apply in your home country it does... at least it did in the U.S.. I had to go to the local Police station and get finger printed so they could run a criminal background check, the results of which had to be submitted with my application. I'm pretty sure the Thai consulate mentioned an international criminal background check as being one of the things that slows the process on their end. When it comes to non immigrant visas, of any description, they should require a criminal record check to see if the applicant is wanted either in Thailand or their country of origin.

Maybe so Mr. C, but it would be nice if they were a little more pro-active rather than re-actionary about it all......IMO.
Cheers though, that is a fair comment.

Not so for a non-immigrant 'O'. Very little information at all, and no real checking.caller wrote:If getting a non immigration visa from abroad, it's a requirement to get a criminal record check. Ah well, there you go, that proves spitfires point. Mine was an OA, I wonder why they don't have the same requirements for all non-imm visas? Seems daft not to and just undermines whatever it is they are seeking to achieve.Big Boy wrote:Not so for a non-immigrant 'O'. One of the things I have learnt in my time here is how things seem to be done without any real thought being given to why? Rather some things seem to be how they are, because that's how they've always been.
