Hua Hin residents raise stink over polluting trash dump

http://www.bangkokpost.com/news/environ ... trash-dump

PRACHUAP KHIRI KHAN -- Hua Hin city officials are struggling with a waste management crisis after residents living near a dump said they wanted the garbage dumped elsewhere.

Dozens of locals used tyres to block an entrance to a 600-rai landfill in tambon Tab Tai and prevent garbage trucks from unloading their refuse around 2pm Tuesday.

Protesters said they had put up with the stench from a gigantic mountain of trash, as well as other problems, since the dump opened 22 years ago. Each year the waste mountain grows taller and putrid liquid seeps into natural water sources, contaminating their crops, they complained.
Resident Chid Srisook, 50, said the toxic runoff worsened during rainy periods, rendering her crops inedible. Neighbour Supachai Bussara, 57, agreed that liquid waste seeped into his fish pond, killing many of them......................

Can we use one of our maps to pinpoint these two locations, Tab Tai and Thanarat? It may be useful information for people not familiar with the area who are shopping for land or housing. Pete

In the absence of a better map, this is where I imagine people are talking about.

Just off Soi 112, very close to the 'Millionaire Development'.

Very worrying is as you turn off Soi 112, there's a small lake/large pond where I've often seen water trucks filling up

I've indicated where the bin lorries live, and I assume the tip is the (what looks like a) quarry just behind.

Apologies if I've got the wrong place.

I would like to think that when the water lorries are filling up at that 'lake' they are the ones being used to water the plants on the central reservations mentioned in another thread about wasting water.

I hope they will relocate it. On some days when the wind blows in our direction some of the stench blows past

It wouldn't be absurd to say there may be pressure to close the dump from the developer of that new lagoon mega place. His clients are BKK hi-so actors and the like from what I've read. If they get "wind" that a dump is there his order books may stay empty. Pete

Thanks - do you mean the one nearest the dump?

As the crow flies, old or new development will probably make little difference. I've been to the old development a few times, and have never smelt anything untoward,

I'll never forget the smell of the dump as I travel into Roi Et from Kalasin - if it was anything like that, I'd agree there was a problem. However, I've been in the general area of this tip many times, and have never smelt anything out of the ordinary. Maybe I've just been lucky that the wind has been blowing in the wrong direction every time.

With or without wind, Dusita is quite near to the dump, so I assume they would be aware of any lingering pong!

I live at the "Old" Emerald which is not that old.
Smell used to be worse when we first moved in but now can hardly smell anything, maybe I'm used to it or it has improved.
Plus the used have lacks of dogs fighting and howelling. Perhaps they have moved these dogs elsewhere too lol
