Spiders

What about spiders? I cant stand spiders. Are there many big black and hairy spiders in Hua Hin? Im so scared of them that I even cant kill them. Im for sure will always have doors and window closed when Im in my house...

There are no big spiders in HH. Don't worry.
I'd be more concerned about the ants who feed on your leftovers in the kitchen.
As long as you keep a tidy house, you're fine.
I do have to ask, why on earth are you coming to a semi-tropical country if you're worried about "critters"? They are all over the place.

Because of the lovely nature, lovely warm weather,cheap to live there and for the adventure and of course the nice people over there

. I dont care about ants and lizzards. Cant help Im scared of spiders. Snakes are not to bad but I dont want to get bitten by one.

And also I love swimming and snorkling. I know that hua hin is not good for snorkling but I can go elsewhere. And I want to take a diverscert.

I have actually seen the biggest spider that I have ever seen here in Hua Hin. It was in the market so it may well have been transported here with some produce. When I first saw it I could only see one of it's legs. When it moved I thought it must be a rat's tail. After moving position I spotted the beast in it's full glory. Its span was at least fifteen cm.

Other than that all we have is very small spiders. None of them bite and they keep the insect pest population down. They are always welcome in my house. However the very powerful totally illogical Arachnophobia is a difficult one to overcome. The only successful cure that I have ever heard of is Accupuncture and that only has about a 20% success rate.

Spider's would rate at about 100,000 in the list of dangerous creatures which would read something like,

Motor vehicle drivers,
Drunken farang jaywalkers,
The myriad of Bacteria,
BGs,
Stray dogs,
Cute little flower girls.
Men wearing tight brown trousers.
Thieving dirty disgusting disease ridden feral monkey's
Tesco Lotus security guards,
Mosquitos,
West Ham supporters.
Jelly fish,
Burmese fishermen,
Bed bugs,
Isanese builkding workers,
Flys,
My cat.
Poisonous snakes, and then those great big F*** Off millipedes that seem to suddenly appear everytime it pisses down with rain.

I understand that if you put down a 25MM diameter rope around your house, the fiber tickles the spiders stomachs and they flee?

When I studied in China in the late -80's, there was this Australian guy who had lived in Cambodia during the Pol Pot era. He was of Chinese ancestry. I once asked him about the life there and he told me they used to catch spiders so that they would have had something to eat. Now, that's another kind of a view point of the creatures.

I had a 'st Andrews cross' spider living in my garden last year, magnificent beastie he was to. Unfortunately wind wrecked his web and he left for pastures new. I wish him well.
