Ammonia as a fuel for cars is not new - I posted about this back in 2021

As I've pointed out before, a hydrogen fuel cell car is an EV, it just uses a fuel cell instead of a battery.
It's less efficient by a factor of at least three and requires someone to build a huge hydrogen production and distribution network.

I think green deadlines will be extended, as is already happening. Pragmatism will win out over idealism, as the UK's new Government in waiting, has already acknowledged. ICE cars will continue to get cleaner, hybrids will become mainstream, and the wealthier can do their bit by buying EV's and any other new alternative fuels.
Talk is cheap

I’m still a firm believer that EV battery technology will continue to develop and provide most of the solutions to the current concerns - range, charging times, safety, cost.

And batteries are less than 20% as efficient as ICE. Thanks but no thanks.

Not at all, most conventional ICE engines are only about 30% efficient whilst a battery EV can be over 70%.
If the energy is coming from solar panels on the roof, it's basically free and harmless so efficiency isn't really that relevant anyway.

Back in 2021 I forwarded the article to Autocar UK, but it never broke cover - obviously somebody with more clout is now getting the subject recognised!!

Yet another “breakthrough” in EV Battery technology - when are we going to see one of these in cars that we can buy?

I would be reluctant at this time to purchase an EV. The fear is the continued development of battery technology could make your EV almost redundant (and therefore worthless) overnight. I am sure they will become more efficient with improved range and quicker battery charging but who knows when? And therefore when is it safe to make the investment? Currently hybrid is the safer solution and possibly will be for many years.

Guess that depends on one's age and location.

I've saved approximately ฿300k already, in the past 15 months of owning an EV. ฿240 via govt incentive & ~฿60k in petrol cost. Don't need more range, or more accurate, not willing to pay for more range, as that is no longer an issue, w/BYD Seal providing 500+ kms, and as much as I've ever gotten here with my ICEVs. I'm quite happy with taking that welcomed break after 3+ hrs on Thai roads.

No new tech will be mass produced within the next couple years, and at 69 now, waiting would be silly for me, and passing up ฿50k a year petrol savings while driving a better performing car, than any ICEV that I've ever owned.

This could be interesting for what I want in Thailand, which is basically a local runabout:

Whilst this article doesn’t completely rule out hydrogen as an alternative to EV’s in trying to achieve net-zero emissions, it certainly shows that it’s very unlikely to challenge BEV’s as the key alternative to fossil fuelled vehicles.

Edit: Someone has told me that PTT stations throughout the country now have plugs. I find that hard to believe, and take it as meaning in the well populated towns/cities.
