Car Hire

Post by raphoe »

I've moved this post in the hope that it will raise awairness but also to reasure people that LOS, tread carefully, is one of the best places in the world.

Like you, Bushman, I've been "lurking" around the forum for about a year and only recently started to contibute.

My first trip to LOS was four years ago, the world cup was on and I watched the final in O'reilys Bar in patpong, I didn't want to come to LOS because of the 12 hour flight. My mate had his girlfriend in the uk on a fieance visa and when they both aked me to come to HH with them I said no, she then told me they were getting married in her village and I couldn't refuse.

We had three nights in BK(Byoke Sky) and then had a hired car delivered to the hotel for our journey south. About 10 miles south of BK we stopped at a huge Kafu supermarket and went inside for about 30 mins. When we got back to the car everything was gone, the car was empty. The car was still locked, no sign of forced entry. We must have been followed from BK by a friend of the guy who delivered the car who had another set of keys.
Devistated as we were, we continued on our journey to HH and sort of rebuilt our moral. Had the village wedding and a great holiday, despite the robbery, and four years and one world cup later I'm coming back to HH for my eighth visit in July.

I love it in HH and in years to come I think I'd like to retire here too.

Not sure if this post is a question or warning.

The best place to rent a car if you are coming to LOS is through my experiance Budget.

You can book your car on-line and they will be waiting for you at arrivals, also if you apply for the Corperate card you will get free upgrades.

They also have many special offers at various times of the year ie 3 days for the price of 2.

If you are renting in Hua Hin then personal recomandation is never a bad idea, some companys will charge you a large excess if you are unfortunate enough to have a prang.

There are many companies renting in town and it is important to make sure you have First class insurance, many thai rent off the street will have small print that any damage is down to the hirer.

Owners Abroad as far as i know do give first class insurance as Budget do i think but maybe others here can confirm.

Dont get caught out and spoil your holiday by renting a car with no limited excess fee.

Mike.

I have edited a bit of your post as you seemed to have copy-pasted the entire webpage into there somehow.

Its interesting how Budget gets a good report for longer one-way trips, not just for the HH area.

I found Avis cheaper by some way when ordering through the internet and the service was excellent. No one-way excess charge was added to my bill, I guess due to the length of time I had the car and best of all, they missed the scrape on the wing mirror!!!

Cheers Mike,
The "post" wasn't a question it was posted to warn others of what may happen.
I've stayed many times at the Bayoke Sky (SONG) and it is not particulaly girl friendly however the accomidation is superb food superb ect. ect.
The car we rented was via the hotel reception and it was one of the big four hire firms (starts with an A) and while the car was fine the subsequent robbery was not! :guns:
I hope this will be of some help to first time travelers, good luck God Bless
