Subhamitra Hotel

Post by thehamok »

I recently stayed at Subhamitra Hotel. I know its off season and it was quiet but I found it a good place to stay.

The room I was in was a good size. It had a fan instead of the normal air conditioning which I found very good. In fact I think its even better than air conditioning.
The hotel is very well located.
There is a nice coffee shop just across the road i.e. EURO Bakery.
Up the road from the hotel is a good Internet shop .
A laundry is also closeby.

The Suphramit is indeed a fine hotel. But when one discovers somewhere good and quiet it's best not to shout too loud

I have stayed at that hotel on several occassions. My last experience had me vowing that I would never stay there again.

As I have posted several times in the past, my daughter and her family live in Hua Hin. While staying there, she visited us in our room with her eldest daughter (3 years old at the time). The hotel demanded an extra fee (as if I had taken a bar girl in to the room - which I wouldn't pay). We packed our bags immediately, and moved to another hotel.

It is not uncommon in Thailand to charge for extra guests that they were unprepared for especially if there is breakfast involved.

My advice as always is to tell them before you book that you will not be on your own all the time. Usually that reuest is met with "NO problem".

I bet that the increases are not seen by the hotel managemnet so another way is to pay and then speak to the manager when you have your receipt.

I had a similar experience as BB some years ago. A friend of mine checked in telling that his wife would arrive the next day. When she did, they wanted extra money for that. My friend moved out immediately and I told them I'd never recommend the place any more (which I had for some years and they knew I had.) TIT

Let me clarify, the additional charges were for my daughter/granddaughter coming to collect us one afternoon, and waiting in our room for about an hour with us before we went out.

I tried complaining to the manager, who was conveniently in Bangkok at the time. It was at that point that we simply packed our bags and moved to another hotel. Luckily Hua Hin has a host of hotels of a similar quality, and I rarely visit in high season, so it was simple to move my business elsewhere.

It was not as if it was my first time at the hotel, but it certainly will be my last. If thehamok liked it fine- my advice is simply to watch your back.

I've seen it in many places countrywide also when I had people visiting here and we were touring and local people/family would drop by. The hotel staff got an ear full from the visiting Thai's for sure. Turned out to be two scenario's. 1) The staff was not well trained and going by the letter of the law as they had been taught. No supervisor or manager present to instruct them to be flexible. 2) It was a deliberate scam to get more money out of farangs. In pattaya it was always #2. Up-country it was always #1. Pete

In the Subhamitra, I have no doubt that it was 2 a deliberate scam to get more money out of farangs - and pocket it while the manager was away.

I take your point. I have to say that I had no trouble bringing back a 'friend' every day.
No questions asked and no ID requested either.
I did ask in my email when I was asking about the rooms etc if 'visitors' were welcome in that I said I may have a friend staying over and would there be an extra charge etc. Answer was no problem.

Hamok,

Don't get me wrong, I'm sure you have found the hotel OK. Don't forget, I did say we had stayed there on several occassions. If I have a problem with service anywhere, they don't see me again.

Apart from that, the incident I have referred to was about 4 years ago - I'm sure if the cashier had been on the make, she would have been caught by now. Not everybody would have moved on - some would have waited for the manager's return to complain.

Big Boy,

Yes whenever I go back to Hua Hin I would definitely like to stay there again.

It is central with everything you need being very close to you but not in your face.

Hua Hin as you know isn't a big place anyway but I did like my stay there.

Its my hotel of choice and I am there now.
Never a problem, excellent value and location, impeccably clean, nice staff except one unsmiling guy at night who looks like he feels he should be doing something more important and no guest problems or charges.
I can't set too much store by something that happened 4 years ago, that staff person may well not be there anymore.
